Public Library Artificial Intelligence (AI) Capacity Building Cohort #2<https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/libraries/ce/financialmanagement…> Library of Michigan is working with The Galecia Group to provide another interactive capacity building series on AI for up to 24 public library staff members. Recommended participants are library staff who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in AI technologies in topics of particular interest to public libraries. Each session will include 60-90 minutes of instruction and at least 60 minutes of hands-on work using Galecia's PLAID (Public Library AI Demonstration) training platform. The AI Capacity Building Cohort Series includes five live, interactive, online sessions: * Bot-Builder Workshop: Participants will follow along as the instructor builds a simple, functional AI agent ("bot") during the webinar. Participants can optionally follow along to build their own simple bot. * Introduction to HuggingFace: HuggingFace is a global online repository of open source and open-model/-weights AI tools that can be customized, downloaded, and mixed. Participants will try some basic HF tools and learn how this platform can be used for AI tasks and training. * AI-Driven Community Engagement: Participants will use AI to plan a needs assessment survey, analyze patron and community feedback, and implement community-driven action items. * AI in the Archives: Participants will build an AI-based computer vision tool to analyze and catalog historical documents, photographs, and artifacts. * AI Hackathon: Focusing on participant projects. WHAT IS EXPECTED OF PARTICIPANTS To take part in the cohort, applicants must complete a prerequisite of the AI Video Training Series<https://my.nicheacademy.com/staffskills/pathway/80254> developed by the Galecia Group, which is available now in the LM Niche Academy, prior to the start of the Cohort sessions. Participants must commit to attending all five live, interactive sessions. In return, LM will cover the cost of program participation. To participate successfully in the live, online, interactive sessions, you will need internet access, a desktop or laptop computer with video and audio capabilities, and uninterrupted time. Serving Colorblind Patrons in Your Community [https://mcusercontent.com/043a7515ceb3ad45bdd2dd405/images/153344d8-664a-51…] Colorblindness may not be a common occurrence you see every day. About 300 million people are colorblind across the world. While that is a small percentage of our overall population, that doesn’t mean that your library can’t be prepared to serve patrons who are colorblind. According to the National Institute of Health, colorblindness “means a person see colors differently than most people. Most of the time, color vision deficiency makes it hard to tell the difference between certain colors. Usually, color vision deficiency runs in families. Most people who have color vision deficiency don’t have problems with everyday activities.” Most of the issues for colorblind people come from red-and-green combinations as a pair of opposites in design in posters, presentations, etc. The first rule of making a palette for colorblind – avoid combining red and green. If you want to continue supporting colorblind patrons, purchasing a pair of color correcting glasses, like the kind made by EnChroma could help enhance their use of the library. Or the glasses could be put into circulation through a ‘library of things’ so a colorblind patron could test them out before deciding to buy a pair for themselves. Check out "Bouquet Shadow Drawings" on page 62 for a simple and sunny creative project. Adjustable for a variety of ages, shadow drawings can be a great way to provide some guidance and inspiration for those that might not know "where to start." ________________________________ Place a bouquet (in a container) on or near a piece of watercolor paper, creating a shadow that falls on the paper. Using a pencil, trace the shadow of the flowers. Paint the inside of the outline with water, then add watercolor paint to the wet paper, allowing the paint to blend and bloom. And that they often use YouTube to share music with children. You’ll notice that these are different from most videos. Each begins with this message: YOU ARE THE ACTION! I appear only briefly, to introduce each musical game and to emphasize that if everyone listens to the words and listens to the music, they will know exactly how to play along. After my introduction, there is not much to watch. AND THAT IS EXACTLY THE IDEA! My goal is to create classroom music that promotes listening and gives children an opportunity to focus on the words, melodies and rhythms they hear. These videos intentionally challenge children to listen for cues about how and when to join in the play…and to listen for cues about when to stop and wait 😊. I can imagine caring adults, like us, engaging in the play and providing guidance as needed. My goal has always been to promote playful interactions between caring adults and the children they work with and care for. We all know that young children don’t need more time watching screens. But if these screens are the delivery devices for music, I want my ACTIVE musical games—that hone listening skills while promoting joyful engagement—to be shared on those screens. I want to be on everyone’s playlist encouraging children to listen, move and PLAY! You can partner with an existing sponsor and become a feeding site, or go to feeding sites and read books to children while they eat. Just over half of the CDs are left. No label on the package and plastic cover is cracked.
