Yes, apologies for any confusion – someone created an event on their library’s Outlook Calendar and invited the MICHLIB-L listserv email address. MiYouth is not cancelled next Tuesday. Details as follows: Just a note that today, April 1, 2025, is our 5-year anniversary of the very first MiYouth meeting! We have come through a lot as a youth services community and I’m looking forward to connecting with you all next week. An informal survey for District Libraries only: 1. Do you own or rent your building? 2. If you own it, how did you acquire it? One dollar sale or donation from previous owner (city, county, village, township)? Market value purchase from the previous owner? Built or renovated using library funds? Donated by a charitable human or group of humans? Combination? 3. If you rent it, what is the rental fee? A one dollar annual or even monthly rental would be considered "free" rent. If you rent, who pays the property and liability insurance on the property? Who pays for utilities? Who pays for maintenance and upkeep? Does your rental cover any of these things or do you pay the rent and any or all of these other items separately? Thanks for your time. A Great Program About Baseball and the Detroit Tigers

Hello Library Land! Novi Public Library hosted a wonderful event on April 1, 2025, that celebrated the 1984 Detroit Tigers. Both Tom Gage and Lance Parrish presented their new book The Enchanted Season. We had over 150 in attendance. They spoke for over an hour and engaged our audience from the moment they arrived. They sold their book for $20 and signed the books and more :) I highly recommend this event if you want to celebrate baseball and our hometown team! SDL libraries mostly open

As of now, all of the Superior District libraries are open with power, with the exception of the Brevort Township Library in Moran. On Monday, for the first time since I came here over ten years ago, all eight of our libraries were closed because of this storm. I want to extend our support to all of the libraries throughout the state who have been hit hard by this weather. We know many had it much worse than we did. We have also had the bridge closed for most of the last three days because of falling ice, so books coming from up here are not able to get through to downstate and vice-versa. We appreciate everyone's understanding, patience, and cooperation as we all are dealing with some awful situations without power and phones and internet and hot showers. As another storm is moving in, the UP is facing food and fuel shortages now. Supportive words from many of you have been much appreciated. Gather 'Round the Table with Teens: A Food Literacy Workshop Food literacy is essential for teens to understand and learn about food in a positive way, including food skills and best food practices. Library staff that work with tweens & teens will benefit from this workshop designed to guide libraries to in turn support teens as they explore the impact of food on so many levels of their lives. Food Education Consultant Rebecca Antill will provide in-person workshops on how to plan and deliver nutrition & cooking programs for teens, featuring how to do so with minimal kitchen access. As a former librarian, Rebecca will offer a tailored learning experience that will equip library staff to offer food programming of all levels at their libraries. Basic health and safety information, kitchen classroom management, culinary skills and community partners will all be discussed as participants cook and share time together.
