Everyone - We have a number of great programs coming up here at the Dearborn Library. - On Tuesday, April 1st at 6:30pm, we will be talking virtually with journalist Kostya Kennedy about his new book *The Ride: Paul Revere and the Ride That Saved America. * - On Thursday, April 3rd at 6:30pm, Amber N. Mitchell, Curator of Black History at the Henry Ford, will give a presentation on the significance of the Museum's new acquisition, the Jackson House. - On Wednesday, April 9th at 6:30pm, we will be talking virtually with author Susan Morrison about her new biography of Lorne Michaels entitled *Lorne: The Man Who Invented SNL* I hope you can join us either virtually or in-person for any or all of these programs. Gather 'Round the Table with Teens: A Food Literacy Workshop [cid:image004.jpg@01DB8F5B.518DE050]Food literacy is essential for teens to understand and learn about food in a positive way, including food skills and best food practices. Young adult library staff will benefit from this workshop designed to guide libraries to in turn support teens as they explore the impact of food on so many levels of their lives. Food Education Consultant Rebecca Antill will provide in-person workshops on how to plan and deliver nutrition & cooking programs for teens, featuring how to do so with minimal kitchen access. As a former librarian, Rebecca will offer a tailored learning experience that will equip library staff to offer food programming of all levels at their libraries. Basic health and safety information, kitchen classroom management, culinary skills and community partners will all be discussed as participants cook and share time together. Bring your own apron as this cooking workshop is hands-on and very interactive! Upcoming event: Poetry Out Loud State Finals

Hello, Michigan Humanities is excited to host the 2025 Poetry Out Loud<https://www.michiganhumanities.org/poetry-out-loud/> State Finals next Saturday, March 15, in Lansing. Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation competition for high school students, encouraging them to learn about poetry through memorization and performance, build self-confidence, and grow their public speaking skills. The program and all materials are provided to each partner at no cost. Each year, participating partners host their own competitions and select a student to represent their school/organization at the state finals. This year, twenty-seven students from across Michigan will travel to Lansing to compete for the title of State Champion and move on to the National Semifinals and Finals taking place in Washington, D.C., May 5-7, 2025. If you are in the Lansing-area, we'd love for you to attend and get a chance to see the program in action and see if it might be a good opportunity for your library to participate in the future. Happy Friday! Just a quick reminder to register for Michigan Library Advocacy Day! We’re almost at capacity, and we don’t want anyone who plans to attend to miss out. Plus, the sooner you register, the sooner we can coordinate your legislative meetings—we’ve already started scheduling, and as you can imagine, there are a lot of moving pieces! As always, the one-on-one or small group meetings with legislators and/or their staff are the most important part of the day. But we’ve also planned plenty of activities and speakers to make your trip to Lansing even more rewarding! We’re excited to welcome Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist; Skip Dye, Senior Vice President at Penguin Random House, and a leading voice in the fight against book bans; and John Chrastka, Executive Director of EveryLibrary and a national advocate for library funding and policy. They’re just a few of the incredible speakers joining us—we’ll also hear from MLA leadership, PEN America, legislators, and more. Paint By Number - A Little Help

As far as transferring to a canvas you can use graphite transfer paper (available at art stores or amazon) steps would be: print out image place graphite transfer paper on canvas with printed image on top trace the image on the printed paper with pencil or pen. lift off both papers from canvas and image is transferred. you might need to go over the transfer with a sharpie.
