Stephanie oversees the IAC's arts education research project Partnering Arts, Communities, and Education (PACE) as well as Poetry Out Loud, Indiana State Poet Laureate program, and Creative Aging programming statewide. Stephanie served as chair of the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) Arts Education Working Group (AEWG) 2019 - 2020. She is also the agency's accessibility coordinator handling all ADA compliance procedures and leading an Accessibility in the Arts Advisory Committee. Stephanie earned a Master of Arts degree in arts administration from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in visual art education from the University of Indianapolis. She has more than 15 years of experience working with teaching artists and arts integration programming, with specialties in professional development and artist lesson planning. Hello to all Seed Librarians! We are about a month away from our 2024 Michigan Seed Library Summit! This has been an incredibly busy summer and fall for both Bevin and me and the MI Seed Library Network, so we apologize for just now putting out this registration link. We are still finalizing the details for the summit but please be assured it will be packed with great information, special guests, and the announcement for the 2025 One Seed, One State! My name is Vanessa Ivy Rose and I am a local author, educator and podcast host of ABC’s “Reclaimed: The Forgotten League” (which has just received a nomination for an NAACP Image Award). I wrote this book in dedication to my grandfather “Turkey” Stearnes who is one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000 (and is also in three other halls of fame) and last year the Detroit Tigers gave away his jersey to 15,000 fans in celebration of the Turkey Stearnes Centennial. Despite Grandpa Turkey’s accomplishments, he is one of the greatest baseball players many have never heard of because he played in the Negro Leagues due to Jim Crow segregation which excluded him from MLB. As of 2020, he and over 3,000 other Negro Leaguers have been recognized by MLB as Major Leaguers. The Bay County Library System is hosting our next Friends author event with Brendan Slocumb next Tuesday, October 1st at Garber High School. The address is 213 Pine St, Essexville MI. The event will start at 7:00 PM and will include a presentation by the author, a Q and A, and book signing. Books will also be available for purchase courtesy of Leopard Print Books. More info can be found at: https://www.baycountylibrary.org/event/evening-brendan-slocumb-72947 More about Brendan Slocumb: Brendan Nicholaus Slocumb was born in Yuba City, California and was raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in music education, concentrations on Violin and Viola. While at UNCG, Brendan was the concertmaster for the University Symphony orchestra and served as the principal violist. He performed with numerous small chamber ensembles, including flute and clarinet choirs, and in the BESK string quartet. For the past twenty-three years, he has been a public and private school music educator from kindergarten through twelfth grade, teaching general music, orchestra and guitar ensembles. His students were often chosen for district and regional orchestras. In 2005, Brendan was named Teacher of the Year for Robert E. Lee High School; has been named to Who’s Who of American teachers, and is a Nobel Teacher of distinction. Brendan also serves as an educational consultant for the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Music has always played a major part of Brendan’s life. He believes that it’s a life-saving force, and a gift we should always offer our children. When he was nine, he started playing violin through a public school music program. It actually saved his life. Friends he grew up with are today sitting in jail; when they were out running the streets, he was in rehearsals. When they were breaking into people’s houses, he was practicing Dvorak and Mozart. His violin opened the door to opportunity, and he ran through it. Through music, Brendan developed a work ethic that he now tries to instill in his students so that they too can experience the joys of what music can do for us all. Each student is unique. No two kids learn the same way. Not everyone will go on to become world famous musicians, but everyone can learn to appreciate and love music, and to find new ways of communicating. Meeting each student where he or she is, and taking them farther than they thought possible, is what Brendan has always strived to do. Upcoming Author Panel Event in East Lansing

Good morning! I wanted to alert this list to an upcoming event happening in East Lansing in October. Michigan Humanities will be hosting a Great Michigan Read Author Reunion, featuring Beth Nguyen, Kevin Boyle, Steve Luxenberg, Kekla Magoon, Dr. Mona Hanna, Mary Doria Russell, and Angeline Boulley. In a conversation moderated by Bill Castanier, these authors will come together to discuss the ways that literature is critical to building empathy and understanding. This event takes place October 24, 6:30 p.m., at the Pasant Theatre at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing. A book signing with the featured authors will follow the panel conversation; Schuler Books will be on site with copies for purchase. This event will also serve as the announcement of the 10th Great Michigan Read title. Admission to this event is free, but registration is required. SUMMARY The University Librarian should be an enthusiastic and innovative leader who works collaboratively with faculty and staff to provide the library services necessary for students’ success at SAU’s campus in southern Michigan and online. RESPONSIBILITIES * Collaborates with faculty and other academic professionals to ensure the library’s services align with curricular needs and provide students with the information resources necessary for their success. * Exhibits innovation and creativity related to library holdings, structure, and management to meet the needs of 21st century students at SAU. * Ensures that the library’s website and resources to access information related to library are complete and current. * Ensures access of library resources and services to the university community. * Coordinates the delivery of library services to students, faculty, and staff who are remote. * Develops and administers an effective online library environment. * Ensures that the library’s physical space is welcoming, comfortable, accessible, and effective. * Manages the library budget and spending. * Supervises library staff. * Works with faculty to promote the use of Open Educational Resources (OER). * Maintains well-organized procedures for the selection, acquisition and cataloging of physical and online collections, books, periodicals, and other library materials to support SAU’s curricula. * Manages the library’s Integrated Library System. * Manages the library’s electronic resources, including all databases, serials, and consortia, including the annual evaluation of those resources. * Maintains and strengthens partnerships and collaborative relationships with consortia and other groups, including Midwest Collaborative for Library Services, Association of Christian Librarians, Michigan Academic Library Association, etc. * Provides leadership to information literacy activities and participates in the design of information literacy curriculum and information literacy instruction as needed. * Oversees SAU’s small institutional archives. * Performs additional duties as assigned and authorized by University administration. QUALIFICATIONS A master’s degree in library science, library & information science, or related discipline from a regionally accredited institution is required. At least three years of experience working in an academic library and management experience is preferred. Experience with library services and/or teaching in online environments is helpful. Strong computer skills are required, and familiarity with Brightspace or other online learning management systems is helpful. Must be an effective communicator, be self-motivated, be results oriented, be able to prioritize work and manage multiple priorities, and have budget management skills.
