The Midwest Collaborative for Library Services is looking for your input as we craft our strategic plan. As we look to shape the future, we invite you to join us for our Listening Tour in late February and early March. We have ten 90-minute Listening Sessions planned where you can share your wisdom and creativity to help us co-create our next chapter together. In particular, we will be exploring: * Engagement and collaboration - building community and strengthening relationships with our member libraries as well as others with whom we work and collaborate. * Investing in innovation - doing something no one else is doing, and/or scaling ideas from one or few libraries to many, with an "innovation mindset". * Championing and supporting our libraries - collaborating for the benefit of our libraries and their communities. Hi All, As part of the Library of Michigan's role in supporting the development, maintenance, and promotion of local collections at libraries and historical organizations across the state, we have recently created the MiLocalHistory listserv to provide an online forum for local history librarians and other practitioners: https://mail3.mcls.org/mailman/listinfo/mi-local-history Participants are encouraged to use the listserv to: * Exchange ideas. * Stimulate conversation. * Ask questions related to the management of local history collections. * Offer duplicate or unneeded local history materials to other institutions or groups. Good morning, Library Land! I have to admit that I have never noticed, or don't recall having noticed, whether name tags are worn by staff when I go into libraries. YA(?) book stumper

Hello all, I was approached by a patron over the weekend with a book stumper, and I was hoping the librarian hivemind could point me towards some leads! This patron was 18 years old, and he read the book about 4 years ago, so we're looking at a publication date of 2020 or earlier. He checked it out from his high school library, so we're operating under the assumption it was YA, but he wasn't sure. It's some sort of mystery/thriller, but the only thing that stood out in his mind was *the book is written in two altering perspectives and one is in second person*. He was hoping this was a memorable enough detail that someone would remember it. I know it's not a lot to go on, but if you remember any books along this line, feel free to send me the names! Library of Michigan Virtual Millage Series March 2024

Greetings, Join us a series of webinars covering the topic of library millages. Each webinar will be recorded and posted at the end of the month. Registration for the series provides you with access to all 4 sessions listed below. Register here: https://libraryofmichigan.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/libraryofmichigan/even… Deciding upon, initiating, running and ultimately having a successful millage campaign is a daunting prospect for many Michigan Public Libraries. Resistant Municipalities, election and campaign laws, and combative communities can combine and overwhelm boards and directors alike. This series is for you! The 2024 Millage Series will occur every Monday in March. Participants need only to register 1 time to attend one or all sessions in the series. Each session will center on one aspect of the millage process: Session I: March 4, 2024, 1pm - 2:30pm EST Determining to attempt a Millage How Library Funding works. How much do you need? How much are you likely to receive from a millage, etc. Speakers: Clare Membiela, & Joe Hamlin. Library of Michigan Session II: March 11, 2024, 1pm-2:30pm EST Legal considerations of a Millage - Anne Seurynck, Attorney with Foster, Swift, Collins and Smith Session III: March 18, 2024, 1pm-2:30pm EST Assembling a "Yes" Committee; Campaigning Dos and Don'ts (Speaker - TBA) Session IV: March 25, 2024, 1pm-2:30pm EST Communicating to Campaign - Millage discussions for supportive and non-supportive communities.
