Library Aide Digital Services Troy Public Library<https://troypl.org/> Starting at $15.00/hour The Troy Public Library<http://troypl.org/> is the hub of the vibrant, dynamic, and diverse City of Troy. The Library sees over 700,000 visitors per year and serves an educated and involved community. Being engaged with up-to-date technology is a priority and a value to Library staff, residents, and businesses. DUTIES * Monitor patrons' use of the library public computers and enforce computer use policy. * Manage patron issues in the computer lab, and enforce all of the policies around that, food, noise, time, managing Envisionware. * Assist technology center patrons, troubleshoot computer hardware and software issues. * Apply a full working knowledge of all forms of technology, especially laptops, smartphones, tablets, and e-readers. * Maintain the library's public calendar and enforce room use policy. * Assist with teaching computer classes to the public. * Perform related duties as required. REQUIREMENTS * High school degree or GED equivalent and a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours of college credits. Applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Selected candidate(s) must submit proof of educational attainment and official transcripts at time of offer. * Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public, library staff, library volunteers, and other City departments. * Ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, fast-paced environment, using excellent organizational and time management skills. * Proficiency with electronic resources, Microsoft Office applications, social networking sites, and mobile technology. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Proficiency using multiple devices and platforms, including iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows. * As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana). PREFERENCES * Prefer college coursework in Library Science. * Prefer previous clerical experience and strong keyboarding/data entry skills. * Strongly prefer recent experience working with the public in a technology support environment. * Experience with library electronic resources, e.g. OverDrive, Hoopla, and other relevant software. HOURS * Part-time; Year-round. * Average of 20-25 hours per week; Schedule will include at least one evening shift per week and at least two weekend shifts per month. * This position offers forty (40) hours of paid time off (PTO). The Indian River Area Library is a Class II Library, serving over 4,000 community members. We are located in the heart of downtown Indian River, Michigan, right in the center of town. *HOURS: *Part-time, hourly wage, 12-15 hours weekly. Recommendations for delivery of materials to home-bound residents

Good afternoon, My library established a "Materials by Mail" program approximately 30 years ago to provide permanent or temporary home-bound residents with library materials at no cost to the patron. The service uses a business reply mail account through the local post office for delivery and return of each cloth mailing pouch. This program worked very successfully until the last five or so years when the postal service seemed to implode - before COVID and before the staff shortages we see now. Many mistakes on being made at our local post office and they are not taking responsibility for them. I would like to investigate other delivery services. It is not an option for us to have staff or volunteers (if we had an abundance of either) make the deliveries. I would appreciate any alternatives.
