One Week to MCLS's Virtual Dialogue!

Join the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services as we gather over Zoom with library staff from all over Indiana and Michigan one week from today, on Wednesday, March 15, at 10:30am-noon Eastern (9:30-11am Central). Register now at https://www.mcls.org/training-events/events/virtual-dialogues-2023. Come learn and share together with us as we discuss cultivating a flexible mindset. Our Virtual Dialogues aren't a webinar or workshop, but instead are an opportunity for librarians and library workers at all levels and in all library types to talk about issues impacting their work. During the dialogue, we will spend time sharing thoughts, ideas, and insights with other participants. Because these are conversations and most learning will be done with peers in breakout rooms, sessions will not be recorded; we hope you can join us live. Anyone using Libdata for computer time and or print management

We currently use time limit manager and papercut and are exploring other options for time and print management and are looking for something easy to use and that works well with Deep Freeze. I don't have any experience with Libdata, so any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you use something else you love that handles in-house and mobile printing that your patrons and staff don't get frustrated by, I'd like to hear what it is as well. We do not have in-house IT and we have about 15 computers for the public at two locations. Presenter Recommendation: Terence O'Leary

Hi all, We hosted Irish-American author and storyteller Terence O'Leary on The Potato Famine and the Coming of the Irish to America last night. His storytelling style and content were engaging and he received many compliments from attendees. The speaker's presentation is based on six years of research for his 3 Irish Crossings novels. Through the years, Mr. O'Leary has given numerous lectures about The Great Hunger at Irish Festivals including Dublin, Dayton, Pittsburgh and Detroit. He has also lectured at numerous libraries, universities and genealogy clubs about the Potato Famine. The Great Hunger not only affected the destiny of Ireland but also America. It is a story that is so important to the heritage of over 34 million Irish-Americans. As an Irish storyteller, the author's quest is to keep the famine story alive. Mr. O'Leary usually talks for 45 minutes with time after the lecture for questions and answers. The author can also bring copies of his Irish Crossings Trilogy for those who would like to purchase autographed copies of his books. His program cost $100, which including transportation cost from Temperance, MI. Presenter Recommendation: Dianna Stampfler

Hello all, We just hosted a wonderful program, "Ladies of the Lights", with author Dianna Stampfler from Promote Michigan to celebrate Women's History Month! We arranged the program to coincide with the library's Nonfiction Book Club meeting - they read her book, "Michigan's Haunted Lighthouses" in the previous month. The book left out enough details that we had plenty to learn about the brave women who worked as lighthouse keepers in Michigan's historic lighthouses all across the state. She also shared some interesting stories from when she met the lighthouse keepers themselves, their relatives, and descendants - with enough humor and intrigue to keep the audience engaged. Her program costs $250 with additional costs for mileage; I would definitely say she is worth the cost. She is a true professional; we had a small group for the program and she presented with enthusiasm as if we had 100 people in our audience.
