Art Club Magazine - MYTHICAL CREATURES call for submissions

The Art Club (for tweens/teens) at the Boyne District Library in Boyne City has an open call for drawings to be published in their Art Club Magazine zine. The theme for the first issue is mythical creatures, which can include monsters, cryptids, or other mythological creatures. Drawings should be on 8 ½ x 11 inch paper and include a short description and your name. You can send originals or photocopies, full color or black and white. library culture statement

I'm seeking input from those who have created a work culture assessment and/or a culture statement, as I'm serving on a committee to develop both for our library. Our plan is to use the work culture assessment to design a process for culture discussions, which would then inform the library's culture statement. I'm finding library culture statement examples from several libraries in Illinois, but not much in Michigan. I'd be interested in hearing from those who have done this or are considering it. Content and condition The titles listed are extra copies of fiction and non-fiction (hard and soft cover) books submitted to the Michigan Notable Books program over the last year and either contain Michigan content and/or were written by a Michigan author. Also available are new and used Michigan government documents (on the second sheet of the document), items weeded from our collections, and donated materials we cannot use. Most of the non-MNB items are old library books and come with library markings/stickers, but are otherwise in the condition noted on the spreadsheet. If you'd like to only consider the newer books, you can either sort by condition or publication year. If you are local or passing through, you are welcome to schedule a time to select and claim materials on-site from 9am-5pm, Mon.-Fri. New Job Opportunity - Executive Director search - Flint Public Library (MI)

Executive Director - Flint Public Library (MI) The Flint Public Library (MI)<https://www.fpl.info/> Board of Trustees seeks an innovative, daring, and thoughtful individual as its next Executive Director. A 2019 IMLS National Medal finalist, FPL is working to transform its community through a completely renovated 90,000 square-foot Main Library and its dedicated staff of 32.2 FTE. The renovated library re-opened in May 2022 with double the children's learning and digital learning spaces, two-thirds more room in the award-winning Local History & Genealogy collection, and 19 technology-rich meeting rooms of various sizes that are available to the public. Approximately 40% of the renovation was funded through a bond issue, with the remaining 60% covered by philanthropy. Once the bond is paid off, the library will be debt-free. The library's $4.4 million budget is generated primarily through two 2-mill property taxes - one in perpetuity and the other set to be renewed in 2031. Programming is tied closely to three strategic priorities, chosen to complement but not duplicate the work of other community organizations. Key initiatives include establishing a new strategic plan; reconnecting the library with the community after the pandemic and closure from library renovations; committing to seeing through the equity, diversity, and inclusion goals of the organization, and ensuring the library has a highly effective and passionate workforce. History, resilience, and pride are a few of the defining characteristics of Flint. Located in the heart of Genesee County on the east side of Michigan, Flint is home to just over 81,000 residents. Flint is a diverse community whose ethnic roots can be explored through the arts, culture, and food scenes. With many indoor and outdoor music venues, a bustling farmers market, and established cultural institutions, Flint offers a unique mix of amenities for individuals to enjoy all year long. Flint Public Library is located within the Flint Cultural Center. This unique campus houses a group of nationally recognized cultural institutions aimed at furthering the arts, sciences, and humanities. In addition to the library, it is home to the Flint Institute of Arts, Flint Institute of Music, Flint Repertory Theatre, Sloan Museum of Discovery, and the Flint Cultural Center Academy. The University of Michigan-Flint, Mott Community College, and Kettering University serve as academic anchors for higher education. Flint residents are known for their indomitable spirit, grassroots initiatives, and collaborative approach to community needs. Responsibilities: The Executive Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, monitoring, and evaluating library operations and activities. They support and promote the library's mission to become Flint's go-to place to learn for life. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting the board in developing, evaluating, and implementing library policies; ensuring adequate staffing levels, supervision, and performance management project; formulating immediate and long-range plans covering major aspects of library operation; ensuring the financial well-being of the library; serving as the principal spokesperson and advocate for the library; and overseeing and evaluating a broad range of creative and innovative programs which engage a diverse community. Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, a master's degree in library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program, and at least five (5) years of senior management experience in a complex library system required. The ideal candidate will be an active listener, participatory collaborator, engaging speaker, champion of intellectual freedom, and consensus builder.
