The posting closes at 6:00 PM on Sunday, 04/03/2022: Page i GRADE: 4 POSITION SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Circulation Services Supervisor, the Page provides direct and indirect services to library patrons, primarily the check-in, shelving and retrieval of library materials. The nature of the work requires evening and weekend hours. This is s a regular part-time position and is non-exempt from overtime under FLSA guidelines. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS * Basic knowledge typically associated with the completion of a high school diploma. * Ability to accurately sort and shelve alphabetically and numerically. * Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and common office equipment. * Ability to understand and follow detailed written and verbal instructions. * Ability to work independently without close supervision. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES * Assists in other Circulation Services workgroups as directed. * Accepts special assignments or duties in support of the library's goals and objectives. Serves on workgroups/committees and participates in initiatives as assigned. * Enforces library policies using a polite and professional approach and alerts appropriate staff member for assistance, completing interaction or incident reports as directed. * Stays informed of library news and events via review of all forms of library communication: website, email, SharePoint, library newsletter and blog. Contribute content as appropriate. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS * Sufficient physical agility to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, sit, lift up to 40 lbs., and push carts weighing up to 200 lbs. * Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to grab, hold, and shelve materials and read small print on labels. * Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in writing and verbally. * Ability to efficiently review, comprehend and produce a wide variety of materials in both electronic and hard copy form. * Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions in a fast-paced environment. This position works collaboratively with the library staff to support the research needs of the university community including faculty, staff, and students. The Instruction Librarian oversees research instruction with a primary focus on instruction within the core curriculum. This position serves as a liaison with faculty in matters of academic resources and collection development. Library card printers

The East Lansing Public Library is considering switching from having library cards with the account numbers & barcodes already printed on them to a library card printer with blank cards - either a machine that can print directly on a blank card, or one that can print out labels that we can stick on the cards. Preferably the former, as printed labels tend to peel off over time. Does anyone have experience with either type of printer & could point us in the direction of a good system? Hearing more about your experiences, pros/cons, etc. would be helpful. Thanks! Program recommendation: Tom Carr MI true crime author

Hello there, Last night we hosted Michigan true crime author Tom Carr to discuss the 3rd and latest book in his "Blood on the Mitten" series: *Dark Side of the Mitten: Crimes of Power & Powerful Criminals in Michigan's Past & Present. * We'd had Tom out twice before: in the fall of 2017 for his 1st book *Blood on the Mitten*, and in the fall of 2019 for his 2nd book *MI Bad*.. Last night we had a modest-sized crowd, which is most likely attributable to the fact that we've only recently resumed in-person programs here. His previous presentations in the past, however, were well-attended. If you've not had Tom out before he's very personable, knowledgeable and easy to work with.
