Oak Park Public Library is looking for a part time librarian that will be working 50% of the time developing and implementing afterschool activities for teens, and 50% of the time helping a variety of patrons from our information desk. The position will work mostly afternoon shifts (afterschool times) and some Sundays for 12-21 hours / week. The rate of pay is $18.00 per hour. Must have an MLS or be working toward one. Reminder: Usage Survey: The Core Competencies for Cataloging and Metadata Professional Librarians

Dear colleagues, The ALA Core Competencies for Cataloging and Metadata Professional Librarians (http://hdl.handle.net/11213/7853) was released for use by the library community in 2017. Since then, there have been a number of presentations at conferences that have discussed various ways this document has been applied in the profession. There is also anecdotal evidence that the document is being used in library schools, and in various cataloging and metadata departments. However, there is no hard evidence to demonstrate how widely and in what ways the Core Competencies document is being used. Therefore, we invite all of you to participate in this brief survey to help us not only ascertain how widely and in what ways the Core Competencies document is currently being used, but also what needs to be changed or added in the next iteration of the document. This survey will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete, and no identifying information will be collected. Any identifying information supplied will be excluded from or anonymized in any publication or presentation of the results. All staff of all MCLS member public libraries in both Indiana and Michigan is eligible to participate. Beginning on February 15, MCLS members will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of public library funding strategies with this four-week, self-paced course which is part of U-M's Public Library Management series. As many libraries and schools pivot back to virtual, just a quick reminder that some publishers ended their permissions for virtual storytimes, so proceed with caution especially with any recordings. Be sure to check each publisher's website for specifics on the titles you are using in virtual programming. Service with a focus on excellent customer service is essential. The Howard Miller Library contracts with a number of neighboring townships for service and has a service population of over 22,000. With guidance from the Library Advisory Board, the position directs all library operations and manages a primarily part-time staff of 19 people. In addition, the position oversees the operations of the Community Center in conjunction with facilities and maintenance staff. This is a Department Head position that serves under the supervision of the City Manager and is considered to be a part of the City Management Team.
