Home Delivery of Library Materials

If your library does home delivery, we would appreciate learning from you! We currently offer a Books by Mail service where we select books for patrons who are homebound and send them books via USPS. We would like to expand our home delivery service, perhaps making it faster, and open to anyone. Do you restrict the number of items a patron can have delivered? If so, what are your restrictions? How do you do this without spending a lot of staff time? We are on Sierra and use BiblioCommons, and believe that restricting items may cost us more staff time than simply delivering what patrons want when they want it. If you do not restrict the number of items patrons can receive, are you overwhelmed with requests and power users? How do you deliver your items? Staff? Volunteers? Outside delivery company? How do you organize items for streamlined delivery? How do you get items returned? If folks respond to me off list, I will compile. Apologies if this has been covered recently. LM's Library Science Collection - Services to Underserved Community Members

Our communities are diverse and reaching out to those who don't use or have difficulty using library services can be difficult. What materials and services are helpful for various communities? What outreach will be most effective? LM is highlighting topical Library Science titles from our collection in occasional emails. Labor Law Poster Ordering for 2023 has opened!

Hello Michigan Library Friends, The ordering period for the* 2023 Labor Law Poster* set is open now. You can ONLY reserve your set (should hopefully be shipped to us in early January 2023) by filling out the form found at this link: https://forms.gle/FFFQxyCUTdjHvZn27 Labor Law Posters are required for all work locations and need to be current. Woodlands Library Cooperative purchases our sets through the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, which keeps funds in Michigan, and best of all, you can tell those aggressive and sometimes shady vendors who hound you and your staff that you're taken care of for the year. If they give you a hard time, feel free to send them to me. *Pricing*: $27 per set and there's only one option - a one sheet laminated poster this year. We will ship to your library in a poster tube, along with a copy of your invoice. Yes, the pricing has increased for poster sets, along with everything else, it seems. Programming for Introverts

Hi All, This may be a bit of an odd question, but does anyone do programming specifically targeted towards introverted adults? Or adults who might have social or sensory issues? I.e. programming intended to be more quiet and calm than a regular program. If so, what does that look like? Thanks for the feedback. Film Preservation Grants Available

For those with film in your collections, there are two grant opportunities from the National Film Preservation Foundation available. See details below: Friday, March 24th is the registration deadline for the National Film Preservation Foundation's annual federally-funded grant program, made possible by the Library of Congress Sound Recording and Film Preservation Programs Reauthorization Act of 2016. The NFPF offers two types of federal cash grants that support the preservation of historically and culturally significant American films. Completed applications will be due Friday, April 28th. Basic Preservation Grants fund laboratory work to create preservation masters and access copies, and are open to nonprofit and public institutions in the United States that provide public access to their film collections. The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library is looking for a dynamic and inspiring leader to guide the organization into its next exciting chapter. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in community collaborations, strategic planning, and millage campaigns. We are seeking a leader who can guide our team toward growth and empowerment as library professionals. The Library has an operational budget of just over $1.4M that provides services to 28,000 Alpena County residents. This newly renovated Class V library is located in downtown Alpena, mere blocks from Lake Huron in Northeast Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. The Library offers robust community programming in a wide variety of formats and is the home of the Thunder Bay Research Collection and treasured local history collections. This is a full-time, exempt position. Qualifications: Must meet and maintain the requirements set by the Library of Michigan for a Class V library (Level 1 Certificate), MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution, 4-5 years of management experience in a public library setting, Michigan Librarian I certification, up-to-date with current issues and trends in libraries, and familiarity with small-town libraries. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and be able to develop and manage the operating budget.
