Michigan Activity Pass Going On Temporary Hiatus

All, Out of the need to maintain social distancing, and with regards to compliance with Governor Whitmer's Executive Order 2020-9, the Michigan Activity Pass will be going on temporary hiatus, beginning immediately and continuing through at least March 30, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. The MAP website will remain up. However, patrons do not have the ability to check out any passes. A message to inform patrons of the temporary suspension of the program has been added to the MAP website. Also, a message concerning same has been posted to the MAP Facebook page. Thank you for your support of the Michigan Activity Pass program. Sincerely, Jim F. EO 2020-9 Questions

I have received several questions about EO 2020-9 and the closing of libraries. The EO is directed at the public NOT employees. The EO states: 1. Beginning as soon as possible but no later than March 16, 2020 at 3:00 pm, and continuing until March 30, 2020 at 11:59 pm, the following places of public accommodation are closed to ingress, egress, use, and occupancy by members of the public: 1. Restaurants, food courts, cafes, coffeehouses, and other places of public accommodation offering food or beverage for on-premises consumption; 2. Bars, taverns, brew pubs, breweries, microbreweries, distilleries, wineries, tasting rooms, special licensees, clubs, and other places of public accommodation offering alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption; (c) Hookah bars, cigar bars, and vaping lounges offering their products for on premises consumption; (d) Theaters, cinemas, and indoor and outdoor performance venues; (e) Libraries and museums; (f) Gymnasiums, fitness centers, recreation centers, indoor sports facilities, indoor exercise facilities, exercise studios, and spas; (g) Casinos licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board, racetracks licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board, and Millionaire Parties licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board; and (h) Places of public amusement not otherwise listed above. Places of public accommodation subject to this section are encouraged to offer food and beverage using delivery service, window service, walk-up service, drive-through service, or drive-up service, and to use precautions in doing so to mitigate the potential transmission of COVID-19, including social distancing. In offering food or beverage, a place of public accommodation subject to this section may permit up to five members of the public at one time in the place of public accommodation for the purpose of picking up their food or beverage orders, so long as those individuals are at least six feet apart from one another while on premises. This section does not prohibit an employee, contractor, vendor, or supplier of a place of public accommodation from entering, exiting, using, or occupying that place of public accommodation in their professional capacity. Cancelled AARP Tax Prep Services: What Now?

Hello! Last Friday, the AARP Foundation cancelled the volunteer tax prep services they carry out at our library from February - April. The Library also had to cancel all programs and close to the public, which would effectively cancel those events anyway. Does anyone provide a summary of free tax prep resources to your patrons? If so, would you mind sharing? If you know of a good digital or in-person option for Michigan residents that is free or discounted, please let me know. Charter offering free wifi for students for 60 days, plus free installation.

I believe this is national whereever Charter operates. I first saw a post for it in CT but found it also listed in WI. https://www.fdlreporter.com/story/news/2020/03/13/wisconsin-coronavirus-spe… Charter Communication announced Friday morning it will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a subscription. The news comes on the heels of the arrival of coronavirus in communities throughout the country, and concerns over transmission of the virus. Wisconsin has seen six confirmed cases as of Thursday afternoon. Public and private school and universities are implementing changes and closures. Many have scheduled early spring breaks, extended breaks, and are looking into or have already scheduled online courses and video instruction to temporarily replace brick and mortar classrooms. Charter will partner with school districts to ensure local communities are aware of these tools to help students learn remotely, the company said. A service of up to 100 megabits per second will be provided. The offer begins Monday. Those interested in enrolling are asked to call 1-844-488-8395. Tecumseh District Library Closed Until April 6
