Great Michigan Read kick-off event on 9/16 at Flint Farmers' Market

Good morning from Michigan Humanities! >From 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2019, you're invited to join us at the Flint Farmers' Market for the Great Michigan Read Kick-Off event. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the program will begin at 6 p.m., featuring an author conversation and Q&A with Mona Hanna-Attisha, author of this year's Great Michigan Read selection, What the Eyes Don't See. A book signing will follow. Enjoy music from the UM-Flint Jazz Ensemble and light refreshments from the Flint Farmers' Market. Copies of What the Eyes Don't See can be purchased from Source Booksellers at the event. Endowment establishment questions

Hello Directors, We met with the Community Foundation of Southeastern Michigan and discussed establishing an endowment as, I understand, several of you have. Would you mind sharing your experience off-list? Thanks for taking the time to respond. Here are some of the questions we have: What are the advantages to establishing an endowment with a foundation? Was your foundation endowment initially library-funded or donor-funded? What was your initial investment? Does your library add to the established endowment or only donors add to the endowment? Do you take in-house fundraising campaign proceeds (gift money) and add to your foundation endowment? Basically, do you use library funds to fund the endowment? Did your library experience an increase in giving since the endowment? Is it static or did it generate more gifts? If you have had an endowment pre-2011, what is your experience before 2011 and since 2011? Over the last 5 years? Do you promote the endowment as an option in your Annual Appeal campaign? If so, has it generated donations? Do you have data that supports an increase in their giving as a result of offering an endowment option? Finally, what is the "goal" of your endowment? IT Staffing

MeL Minute: Updates to the eResources page functionality

After watching librarians interact with the eResources page, we became aware of problems that required changes to how that page works. In the last couple of months we have upgraded this page and we believe we've improved its usability. If you haven't checked out the eResources page since the Spring, we hope you'll be pleasantly surprised! Alphabet Links o Are now anchor links only and do not limit your search results to that letter (which required the user to click on "Clear Filters" to see all results again) o Moved below drop down searches by Subject/Audience and Vendor "All Subjects" drop down o Changed to "All Subjects/Audiences" (and "Search for eResources by Subject or Vendor" header changed to "Search for eResource by Subject, Audience, or Vendor") o Reference Centers and a Popular option added to drop down "Clear Filter" o Moved this option up to the same line item as the drop down searches o Now, there is no conflict with both an alphabet search and a subject search so you don't need to use this option as often eResources Help o We're bringing back videos, websites, and ancillary materials that support knowledge about, and use of, the eResources.
