Under the direction of the governing Board of Trustees, the Library CEO-Director is responsible for the planning, directing, managing and overseeing all activities and operations of the library. This position reports to the Board of Trustees and works closely with Library staff to ensure that core values of excellent library service are met while achieving the Library's strategic goals. The CEO-Director maintains all compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations applicable to Indiana libraries. Minimum qualifications include a Master's in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program; ten years of professional library experience OR six years of professional library experience that includes three years management or supervisory experience allowing for Indiana State Library LC1 certification or the ability to achieve certification within six months. The CEO-Director will have a proven track record of a collaborative problem solving approach to library and community issues, previous work with security issues ensuring a welcoming and safe place for customers and staff, the ability to work well with partners through strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to hiring, developing and retaining stellar staff. Prior experience as a library administrator in an urban, multibranch library system, reporting to a governing Board, and experience with facilities renovation are preferred. Under the new model, scheduled to take effect Nov. 1, a library may purchase only a single copy of each new title in eBook format upon release, after which Macmillan will impose an eight-week embargo on additional copies of that title sold to libraries. “We have grave concerns about Macmillan Publishers’ recent announcement, which we view as further evidence of a troubling trend in the publishing industry,” stated PLA President Ramiro S. Salazar, library director, San Antonio (Texas) Public Library. “PLA firmly objects to Macmillan’s policy, which will undermine the ability of public libraries to serve our communities. Alpena millage passes; capital project to follow

On Tuesday, August 6, the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library passed a 20-year renewal of a 0.25 mill levy in order to finance a renovation of the Library facility. The unofficial results showed 2,284 for the millage and 938 against. We are thrilled that almost 71% of the voters approved of extending the millage out for 20 years. The ACGNFPL is expecting to launch a $3.7 million renovation of its 1973 facility in February 2021. We have been working with the firm Quinn Evans Architects since 2016. In 2017, an initial 2-phase project was stalled by the discovery of a significant quantity of asbestos material on the ceilings, which ultimately meant that the project couldn't be phased. The great news is that it passed; the bad news is now we have a lot of work in front of us. J Eric Magness-Eubank Library Director Alpena County George N. Programming Policies

Hello All, We are looking at putting together a policy for our programming. Do any other libraries have this? Specifically, should the library pay staff presenters a presentation fee or just their regular hourly rate? What if the staff presenter is the one organizing the programs? Do you cover materials for external presenters or just include the materials cost in their fee? Do you charge patrons for programs like crafts? Do you have more luck with registration or open doors? Greetings! The Library of Michigan congratulates the following newly certified QSAC libraries. The following libraries have recently received certification or renewed their status. Essential Level Novi Public Library, Julie Farkas, Director (https://novilibrary.org) Charlotte Community Library, James Oliver, Director (https://charlottelibrary.org) If you would like to learn more about the Library of Michigan's Quality Services Audit Checklist, QSAC, program, visit www.michigan.gov/qsac where you can find information on how to submit a QSAC application as well as other resources to help your library achieve the measures outlined in each level of service. QSAC measures AND certifications are on a three-year update and renewal schedule to ensure the measures and libraries stay on top of quality service. The Library of Michigan works with volunteer librarians every three years to revise the measures based on participating libraries' experiences and new trends in library services, programs and technology. It is our goal that QSAC measures will continue to provide direction and support for libraries as they look to both improve their services and justify their services to funders.
