*Position Announcement* *Library Director Rochester Hills Public Library * The Rochester Hills Public Library, located in Rochester, Michigan, serves Rochester Hills, Rochester and Oakland Township through the main library (76,000 square feet), two bookmobiles and six mini-branches in a 72 square mile suburban area. The library staff consists of 130 (60 FTE) employees and approximately 125 volunteers (mostly working in the mini-branches). The Library serves a population of 100,485 people. The 2020 budget will be $4.8 million generated through a dedicated library millage. The collection of 280,000 items generates an annual circulation of 2,000,000 items. The library director reports to a six-member, non-partisan, governing board and is expected to provide strategic, visionary and inspirational leadership to the library. The Rochester Hills Public Library has a long history of providing high quality traditional and innovative library services in a welcoming environment. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, possess strong written and oral communication skills, have the ability to relate well to the public and library staff, possess good organizational skills, and be progressive in his/her approach to library service and programming. The director will be required to promote public relations and outreach, staff development and team building, and to provide support and leadership for an operating millage campaign in the near future. *MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:* · Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school · Eligible for a Permanent Professional Certificate from the Library of Michigan. · Ten years of professional library experience with a minimum of 5 years of high-level administrative experience. Hi Everyone! I just wanted to recommend a program we had last week at our library - Larry Martin's World War II In their Own Words. Larry has spent over 20 years interviewing and recording the personal histories of veterans. He also travels to libraries to present the interviews and discuss how he started preserving oral history. When planning for the event, Larry was very professional and happy to answer all of my questions. And in front of an audience, he is very engaging and works to bring history alive to some of the younger attendees to the program. Technical Services Archivist (full time position) *Note: Please upload cover letter and resume to the online application SUMMARY OF PURPOSE: The Technical Services Archivist ensures the effective acquisition, processing, and management of archival collections and other materials held by the Archives and Library. Also facilitates the digitization of Archives and Library materials; and enables access to digital holdings and description. In addition, the Processing Archivist supports staff throughout Historical Resources in their work to collect, manage, preserve, describe, and make available materials within the collections of The Henry Ford. Reports to the Senior Manager, Archives and Library. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Leads, and participates with, Archives Technical Services Team in arrangement, description, digitization, preservation, access, and management activities for physical, born-digital and hybrid archival collections. * Collaborates with Archives and Library staff, along with Curatorial, Registrars, and other Historical Resources departments during acquisition of archival collections. * Oversees digitization of archival materials for internal and external clientele, and maintenance of those digitization workflows; works in conjunction with other digitization and digital content teams. * Manages storage for physical and digital collections, including maintenance of location data and file security permissions; development of space usage data; and storage organization. * Facilitates transfers of Edison Institute records to the Archive and the tracking of permanently held inactive records. * Ensures capture of thehenryford.org and other websites, including crawl scheduling, seed selection, quality control, and crawl access. * Provides support for administration and usage of institution collection management system. * Manages contractors, volunteers and student interns as needed * Contributes to departmental budgeting process including review, estimation, and tracking of equipment, material, and labor expenditures dedicated to archival technical services. * Serves as a resource to staff throughout Historical Resources regarding archival materials and collections. * Supports Archives and Library operations and participates in other work as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: * MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited academic program, preferably with an archives concentration including coursework in archival management and theory. * Five years' experience with arrangement, description, handling, and care of archival materials, preferably in an academic or research library. * Understanding of digitization technologies, standards and best practices for both still image and time-based media. * Knowledge of metadata schemas and standards relevant to archival control and description, including DACS, EAD, MARC, MODS and Dublin Core. * Experience with XML and related languages including XSLT, HTML, and CSS. * Familiarity with tools used for MARC cataloging and EAD delivery and display. * Familiarity with ArchivesSpace, Archivist's Toolkit, or other archival management systems. * Understanding of current archival theory and approaches for efficient processing. * Knowledge of current trends, tools, and protocols in digital archiving and preservation. * Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to copyright, privacy, and record restriction in archives and special collections. * Experience leading work of or supervising archival processing staff. * Experience with budget creation and financial management. * Ability to work in an effective and productive manner independently and as part of a team. * Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately in written and oral communication. * Excellent organization and planning skills. Processing Archivist (full-time position) *Note: Please upload cover letter and resume to the online application SUMMARY OF PURPOSE The Processing Archivist - Ford Historical Resources Collaborative (FHRC) establishes physical and intellectual control over the historic business records of the Ford Motor Company held by The Henry Ford through effective arrangement, description, and preservation. Serves as member of the Archives Technical Services Team and collaborates closely with the Curator of Transportation, FHRC, Archives, Library, Registrars, other Curatorial staff and the Digital Strategy Manager to ensure the historical integrity of and access to information about the collections. In addition, the Processing Archivist supports staff throughout Historical Resources in their work to collect, manage, preserve, describe, and make available materials within the collections of The Henry Ford. Reports to the Archives and Library Technical Services Archivist. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Processes collections to appropriate level following an established processing plan. 2. Prepares collection inventories and finding aids compliant with DACS and local descriptive and technical standards. 3. Creates collection catalog, location, and related records in the institution's collection management system. 4. Reviews and publishes finding aid documents to internal and external data stores. 5. Collaborates with Conservation staff to ensure proper handling, housing, and care of collection materials. 6. Works with Archives Technical Services Team to facilitate electronic access for selected collection materials. 7. Collaborates with other FHRC and Archives Technical Services Team members, and the Curator of Transportation, in the planning, forecasting, and management of processing efforts for the FHRC. 8. Contributes to planning, direction, and review of volunteer and student intern work. 9. Participates in development and implementation of policies and procedures for archival processing. 10. Serves as resource to staff throughout Historical Resources regarding archival processing. 11. Supports Archives and Library operations and participates in other work as assigned. Responsible for a variety of services in the Reading Room including direction and simple reference interviews, security, paging and shelving, and copying and scanning. The position works under the supervision of the Reference Librarian. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. *Full-time Archivist position available at the Arab American National Museum* *Job Summary:* Under general supervision, uses specialized knowledge in Museum Studies and skills obtained through experience and/or formal training to maintain the records and physical care of the Arab American National Museum’s (AANM) object and archival collections. *Essential Duties and Responsibilities:* - Maintain up to date records of all collections including the permanent collections, archival collections, out-going and in-coming loans, etc… - Maintain collections by keeping objects numbered, organized and prepared for long term preservation. - Collaborate with other areas of the Curatorial department on exhibit design, content, archival collections and other details. - Implement suitable collection policies and standards - Manage the museum archives by collecting materials for the institutional archive, receiving collections from donors, processing collections, writing finding aids and making them available in the library catalog and on the online collections. - Write grants for archival and curatorial projects. - Cultivate new relationships and maintain existing relationships with donors, which include responding to inquiries, developing collections, acknowledging donations, etc… - Field all inquiries of donations, appraisals, etc… - Manage and Administer all digital content management systems and online collections - Ensure that adequate security and environmental conditions for the collection are maintained. - Fulfill all photo/document reproduction requests for researchers, authors, filmmakers, etc… - Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications. - Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* - Advanced concepts, principles and practices of Arab American culture and American studies. - Fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of archives and collections principles and practices, collections management issues and trends and the care and conservation of collections, including arrangement and description of archival collections - Fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of material culture and the use of objects in documenting and interpreting personal narratives. *Skill in:* Operating standard office equipments and using required software applications, including Microsoft Office. Preferred skill in Past Perfect, CONTENTdm and Archive-It collections databases. *Ability to:* Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives. Provide a high level of customer service. Space for local organizations

Hello Wise Folk, I remember reading about libraries that allow local organizations to reserve a table in their lobbies or other library spaces to disseminate information to the public. For example, the local Health Department could reserve the table on a certain date to share info about their programs. Does anyone do that? Do you have a policy you could share?
