JOB POSTING Outreach Services and Publicity Coordinator The Eaton Rapids Public Library (ERPL) is seeking an energetic and motivated individual to provide top-notch programming and library services to youth of all ages. Position: Outreach Services and Publicity Coordinator Job Description: Under the supervision of the Library Director, typical duties may include, but are not limited to: * Performing outreach to area schools, daycare providers and others to promote the Library * Representing the ERPL at community events by distributing information and speaking about the Library * Submitting press releases on programs to local media outlets * Maintaining and updating the Library's social media sites * Creating promotional flyers * Planning, organizing and executing library programs and activities designed for children ages birth through grade 12, including the Summer Reading Program * Delivering reference, information and reader's advisory services for library patrons of all ages * Assisting patrons in use of computers and other library technology Qualifications: * Requires a bachelor's degree * Experience working with children and teens * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Strong commitment to public service excellence * Self-motivated, creative, enthusiastic, flexible and dependable * Proficient in using computers and the Internet Hours: Part-time, 24-26 hours per week, including regularly scheduled evenings and weekends. Salary/Benefits: Hourly wage starting at $15.50. Pro-rated paid time off and some paid holidays. inquiry on bed bugs

Hello everyone, Over the past few years, we've had a significant increase in patrons returning items with bed bugs, and were wondering how other libraries handle these situations. Currently, we inspect items for bugs and signs of bugs at check in. Anything that has bugs is discarded, and anything that was either in the drop box with or in the household at the same time as affected items is treated in our ZappBug heat box. The patron's borrowing privileges are restricted until they provide proof of a clear inspection. Has your library noticed an increase in pest issues? Do you check your items for bed bugs? Do you discard or treat items, and how do you treat them? How do you handle the patrons, and do you charge them for the items? Thank you for any insight. We have had some wonderful programs this summer! Joel Tacey was here to kick off our Summer Reading. It was the third time we have had him come to our library. The kids just love him. Paul McCormack came with his Classroom Critters. He is great with kids! Plus, he has all the animals. You might get to see...a bonded pair of doves, a tree frog, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, mice, a chinchilla, a baby possum, lizards, a blue-tongued skink, and snakes. He varies what he brings. This time there were also tiny, rescued birds that had to be fed. He took care of that, or our staff. These were the only ones they were not allowed to touch. Some things they are even allowed to hold. And if they don't want to, he does not force anyone. Yesterday, we had A2Magic here. Jeff Wawrzaszek presented a magic show that was different from Joel Tacey's, but also very much enjoyed by everyone who attended. He engaged the kids and they were eager to volunteer to help with tricks. He even incorporated some of the adults in the room.
