This workshop will help trustees and library directors understand how to incorporate EDI into policy development, strategic planning, funding initiatives, board development, and more. Anne will present a variety of interactive scenarios in which EDI issues are a factor, with time for Q&A and discussion. This 60-minute workshop takes place on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. Request from the Secretary of State request to host town halls in local libraries

Hi, everyone. As you know, libraries across Michigan have worked in partnership with the Secretary of State since 2014 to alert the public about upcoming elections and other election-related news. As part of our new public engagement strategy, we are extending our public outreach and traveling across the state hosting public town halls. As an extension of our partnership with Michigan's public libraries, we want to host these forums with Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and other elected officials at local libraries. We have recently held similar events at the Southfield Public Library and the Peter White Public Library in Marquette. They were well-attended and well-received and we'd be honored to bring this event to your library. Has your library eliminated late fees, or is it considering going fine-free? United for Libraries would like to hear from Friends, Trustees, and Foundations on how going fine-free or considering eliminating fines has affected their groups and libraries. This information will be passed along to the ALA Working Committee on Eliminating Monetary Library Fines as a Form of Social Justice. This group was formed as a result of the passage of a Resolution on Monetary Library Fines as a Form of Social Inequity at ALA Midwinter 2019. The committee is creating a toolkit for libraries of all types with information resources, strategies, and tips for libraries wishing to eliminate fines. Night for Notables will be taking place at the Library of Michigan on Saturday, April 27. Come be part of the celebration. Josh Malerman the author of the 2015 Michigan Notable Book Brid Box will be the featured keynote speaker. The recent Netflix movie based on Bird Box has created an increased buzz surrounding Malerman's and his books. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase books, have them signed by the author and rub shoulders/chat with 16 of this year's MNB authors.
