Hello. We're hoping libraries across Michigan can once again help us remind the public about the upcoming deadline for voter registration (Oct. 9). If possible, please post the attached flyer where the public will see it and include it on your website. In addition, we hope you will consider sharing the following messages in any public communication channels your library provides, including social media and newsletters. I've also attached a simple voter registration icon that can be included. The employee is expected to work in a multi-cultural diverse working environment. Duties: 1. Search, input and update online records including bibliographic, patron, reserve and interlibrary loan records following a standard format. Assist with integrated library system (ILS) record maintenance. 2. Verify interlibrary loan requests and locate local holding libraries. Maintain accurate files and statistics for interlibrary loans. 3. Assist library faculty, as needed, in answering library user questions, making appropriate referrals and assuming responsibility for operation of the public rooms. 4. Performs related tasks as assigned. Campus: 1. Provide circulation, interlibrary loan and reserve desk services to on-campus and remote users. Negotiate fines, collect money, and transfer funds to campus business office. Review policies and serve as first-line troubleshooter for related patron problems. Make appropriate referrals. 2. Help patrons locate library material and provide assistance for use of systems and equipment. Coordinate the search process for missing library materials. 3. Assist librarian with bibliographies, instructional materials and background collection development activities. 4. Process and maintain the government documents depository collection from the Federal Depository Library Program by dating, affixing document numbers, shelving and updating and discarding records in the online library catalog. 5. Maintain loose-leaf services. Collect, prepare and process library materials for the bindery. Review damaged library materials and handle basic repairs. 6. Organize and conduct inventory projects. Resolve shelving conflicts and errors. Maintain correct shelving order for library materials. Library Services: 1. Perform copy cataloging in all formats. Modify authority records as needed. 2. Organize and oversee database management projects within the department and across the libraries. 3. Handle OCC's contributions to collaborative lists of serial holdings. Collect, input and update data for update serial lists for the campus libraries. 4. Organize and oversee interlibrary loan processes. 5. Work with technical support to establish and maintain access to electronic library resources. 10. Maintain appropriate budget records for the campus libraries. Serve as liaison with the Purchasing Department to identify appropriate vendors. Review and verify invoices. Resolve invoicing and payment problems, as needed 11. Track standing orders and work with faculty to evaluate these orders. MeL Minute: Supporting Michigan Libraries: Putting You First

Greetings Michigan Library Community, [cid:image002.png@01D45658.939F7A00]The definition of transform is to change in composition or structure and we're excited about the transformation MeL has been going through this summer, and what this means for you. We visited lots of libraries, evaluated surveys, and held listening sessions across the state. Your feedback helped shape the design and architecture of the new MeL.org site as well as determine selections for the new eResources offerings. But more than that, your feedback was the impetus for a shift in our focus. For the entire life of MeL, our emphasis has been to market it broadly to the library community and all 9 million-plus Michigan residents. Starting October 1, we are shifting our focus away from messaging to residents and instead will focus on you - our library and education communities. New eResources On October 1, MeL will expand to over 80 eResources! EBSCO will become our primary vendor and we will continue to offer quality content from Britannica, Gale, and World Book. AtoZDatabases.com will provide a business and job directory as well as a criminal background search. You will find a wealth of resources, including: * MyHeritage (genealogy resource) * Consumer Reports * An upgrade to NoveList that includes K-8 Plus and NoveList Plus (one of the most requested resources) * The full suite of LearningExpress Library resources including a resume builder * A collection of over 200,000 eBooks covering everything from K-8 to Business * A substantial business collection that includes case studies, SWOT analyses, DemographicsNow, and more. * A K-12 collection that includes access to over 25 eResources with leveled readers, magazine and journal articles, subject specific eResources in Biography, History, Literature, Poetry and Science, Opposing Viewpoints in Context, and more. FWD: NASA GLOBE Observer app

NASA GLOBE Observer is a free smart phone app that lets you take citizen science data for NASA. Just this month the GLOBE Observer team launched the latest tool within the app called: "Land Cover Adopt a Pixel." This new feature lets you take part in a project to create more detailed satellite-based global maps of land cover by sharing photos of the world around you. Why does NASA need your help in collecting this data with the new GLOBE Observer Land Cover tool? One reason is to fill in details of the landscape that are too small for global land-mapping satellites to see. Land cover is critical to many different processes on Earth and contributes to a community's vulnerability to disasters like fire, floods or landslides. Pickford Community Library Honored as Number One Library in Nationwide Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge

PICKFORD COMMUNITY LIBRARY RANKED NUMBER ONE LIBRARY IN U.S.A. 2018 SCHOLASTIC SUMMER READING CHALLENGE The Pickford Community Library has reason to celebrate! It's the Number One Library in the United States in the 2018 <http://www.scholastic.com/summer> Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. This is the second year Scholastic is recognizing the contributions of libraries and community partners along with schools in the challenge. The Pickford Community Library coordinated and administrated the challenge for Pickford Public Schools, area homeschoolers, and participants from other Eastern Upper Peninsula schools. 152 area students read 338,057 minutes from May 7 to September 7. In addition, the local community provided outstanding support for the library's "piggyback rewards program" in which students earned in-house prizes all summer long. The Pickford Community Library will be featured in 2019 Scholastic Book of World Records for this nationwide honor and will receive a commemorative plaque and a celebration kit to recognize student reading achievements. This past summer, 509,867 students from all 50 states, two U.S. territories, and Washington, D.C., read 135,865,170 million minutes in the 2018 Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge, a free, online summer reading program which aims to help students return to school reading-ready. It's designed to help kids turn the "summer slide"-the learning loss which can occur over the summer months-into a "summer leap" by discovering the power and joy of reading for fun.
