Beginning to Read/Easy Reader Collections

I am curious to hear more about how other libraries are organizing their Beginning to Read/Easy Reader collections. In doing some research, I've found some libraries have a color coded system designating general reading levels for easy browsing, some libraries have books shelved by publisher, and others have switched from the spine out shelving method for cover out shelving so patrons can see the reading levels as they go. Just a few examples that I've come across. Considering your collection, what have you found works best (or worst) for your library? The Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) is looking for an energetic, creative individual to join our team as the Michigan eLibrary (MeL) Engagement Specialist, Public Libraries. This is a new position and is an extension of existing MeL teams at MCLS and the Library of Michigan. You will be responsible for developing training and support materials in a range of formats as well as promoting use of MeL through education and engagement programs. You will build and maintain strong relationships with public librarians, paraprofessionals, and library administrators through regular communication and visits. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design or technology, or education technology, or a Master of Library & Information Science. The best candidate will have a minimum of 3 years training/instructional experience as well as experience developing learning programs for both live and virtual environments. This job requires significant travel to libraries and conferences around Michigan. You must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license. Telecommuting will be an option. Salary is commensurate with experience. MCLS offers an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, life, and vision insurance. Funeral Leave

Hi there - We are updating our Personnel Policies and are reviewing our Funeral Leave practices. This is currently what our policy states: All employees shall be granted a 3-day funeral leave with pay for in state funerals and 5 day funeral leave with pay for out of state funerals, upon the death of an immediate family member (mother/father, mother & father-in-law, spouse, child, sibling, brother & sister-in-law, aunt or uncle). Additional time may be granted as personal leave without pay, or unused vacation time or personal leave may be granted. My Board is wondering how we would handle step relatives. Seems understandable to want to include step-parents and siblings. Does anyone else out there offer funeral leave for steps? If so, would you please share your wording and or other practices?
