One million dollars is still quite a bit of money even today. It can buy a lot of things. Including hundreds of AWE Learning, Inc. workstations! Just recently one single library system, the name to be announced after they get a chance to make the first announcement to their patrons, purchased over one million dollars of our literacy workstations. Since few libraries have that kind of budget you can only imagine the behind the scenes work to find the grants and cash to make that happen. However, the real story is all about why? Call or email me if you need quotes. The Summer Reading Implementation Guide will be the first of the upcoming guides to all of workstation subject areas. They will help you to really bring your AWE workstations into your reading programs – this summer and all seasons ahead. If you have not received your copy please let me know. 4. Product updates. I often hear people say, “Your program titles seem to be the same. Is there anything new?” Yes, there is! Remember that the front screens of many titles are their branding screens. It is what they use to keep being instantly recognizable. Sesame Street, as an example, is instantly recognizable just by looking at their opening screen. Does that mean nothing actually changes in the program? No! Almost every program we include regularly updates their program in many ways great and small. You do have to connect the units to your Wi-Fi and in the administrative panel click on “Click here to start updates”. Please note that this email is using an external list that we are not allowed to match or update into our systems so if you are on the Do Not Email list please be assured this will be the only version to use this list. She has also served a number of times as an "Honorary Judge" for the Teen Court Program. Ms. Ward is active in her community, having previously served on the board for the Lansing Area AIDS Network, the City of Lansing Park Board, and as a commissioner for the Lansing Board of Water & Light. She also provided pro bono assistance to the homeless through Cooley's Homeless Assistance and Prevention Project. She currently works for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, where she ensures the department's compliance with privacy and federal non-discrimination laws. Holocaust Survivor Speaker

FYI, if your library is interested in having a Holocaust survivor speak at an event, you might want to consider contacting Irene Miller. She speaks to many groups, including schools, church groups, and others. Irene and her family were stranded in a frozen field outside of Warsaw, Poland when the man hired to help them escape instead cheated and robbed them. The family struggled to survive as they became separated, reunited, and ultimately sent to a Siberian work camp. Irene tells the story in her book "Into No Man's Land" which she sells after speaking engagements. MeL Minute: Introduction Liz Breed, new MeL Coordinator

Hi Everyone! My name is Liz Breed and I am the new Michigan eLibrary Coordinator for the Library of Michigan. While I am a Wayne State alum and have 15 years of experience in public libraries, my background also includes a bachelor's degree in business administration and 8 years of experience in marketing research. Prior to joining LM, I was the Assistant Director for Public Services at Jackson District Library. I have also worked at Kent District Library and Capital Area District Library serving in a variety of roles. Occasionally, I teach Marketing for the School of Information Science at Wayne State University. As a member of the MeL Team I will be working closely with Sonya Schryer Norris, Kathy Kosinski, Randy Riley and staff from MCLS to support an upcoming redesign of the MeL site and development of MeL Support and Training resources. Additionally, I'll be assisting with database contract negotiations this year. My role also entails cultivating increased cohesion across all things MeL - MeLCat, MeL databases and MeL Training - with the goal being to increase awareness and support stronger connections. You will see me at conferences and workshops and also supporting LM through various social media channels. I'm excited to be part of the MeL and LM teams, and as a life-long resident of Michigan, I look forward to visiting with library staff all over the state.
