*CLASSIFICATION:* Librarian (ET. - 40 hours) *POSITION TITLE: *Creative Services Librarian *REPORTS TO:* Adult Services and Reference, Department Head *POSITION SUMMARY: *The Creative Services Librarian manages, develops and delivers innovative programming in a creative environment. Utilizes hands-on training and collaboration with guests of all ages and community organizations which may include STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) content, adult programming, and community programming. This librarian has the ability to inspire imagination, draw out potential, and create a gathering place for the community. This position requires a bold individual who demonstrates curiosity, follow through, the ability to identify priorities and shift focus quickly, flexibility, collaboration, and excellent communication skills, while working in an environment rich with diversity. This is a new position and requires the individual selected to plan, develop, and create the implementation plan for the Creative Space including purchasing equipment and engaging staff and the community to design the space. It requires 2-3 nights per week, as well as frequent weekend programming to meet community needs. *ILLUSTRATION OF KEY DUTIES* 1. Gauges level of service based on community interest and need and provides relevant and meaningful services and programs to residents. 2. Remains current on Creative Space technology and trends. 3. Develops, plans, and implements programs with a focus on emerging technologies for children, teens, adults, and intergenerational audiences that could be presented in or outside the Library that are responsive to community needs while sparking interest, curiosity, and fun, inspiring guests to embrace their interests and ignite their creativity. 4. Seeks out and engages with community groups to promote and plan creative services and events utilizing written, oral, video, web, and social media communication. 5. Manages projects and timelines for the Creative Space Team including the preparation of a calendar of events and programming activities. 6. Oversees the Creative Space and creative programming. Provides and schedules instruction and programming, coordinates efforts with other staff and departments. Maintains equipment and software for the Creative Space. 7. Oversees Creative Space and Programming budgets for the Library. Supports staff with purchasing and makes recommendations for service, equipment, furnishings, software, collections for the Creative Space. 8. Instructs staff and the general public based on programming, tools, technology and activities in the Creative space (examples could include: 3D modeling, electronics & programming, wood working, video and photo creation and editing, and art). 9. Gathers and analyzes statistics, writes reports on departmental activities, and develops goals in support of the creative space and library strategic plan. 10. Demonstrates flexibility to change direction/ priorities based on community need. 11. Provides input on policy and procedure for Creative Space. 12. Works on the public service desks providing customer service, which can include electronic reference. 13. Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned. *STARTING SALARY: *$48,972 *HOURS:* 2-3 evenings per week, some weekends required *EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE* 1. Bachelor's Degree required. Related degrees preferred (e.g., education, educational technology, library science). 2. Demonstrated experience and interest in creative programming/spaces. 3. MeL Minute: MeL databases classes now open for enrollment

Greetings Michigan Library Community, The new semester of MCLS MeL Databases classes is now open for enrollment. These classes are held monthly August through November and all are half-hour webinars. Michigan libraries across the state work very hard every day to make meaningful, positive impacts in their communities. MeL databases are there to assist you with the best information available for your patron's business, educational, health, financial, consumer needs, and more. The Library of Michigan and MCLS work together to bring relevant, timely, and accessible MeL databases training to all Michigan library staff and teachers. The focus is to meet the needs in real time, and through MeL provide libraries with the tools and acumen to better serve and educate their communities; thereby strengthening our libraries and state. The webinars are topical and range from school resources, to history, business, and more. They are taught by subject specialist Michigan library staff. The semester kicks-off August 29 at 3:30pm with Back to School with MeL. That class is followed up on September 26 with MeL Small Business Resources. All classes in this series are free and open to all Michigan library staff, educators, and other interested users. This position must be customer-service oriented and proactive in anticipating and resolving problems while maximizing efficient use of computing resources.* *Essential Job Duties* - Configure, maintain, operate, administer and support network infrastructure (LAN/WAN). - Communicate with Internet Providers to identify network needs and respond to concerns and/or network issues. - Assist the Cooperative Director in the creation and evaluation of RFPs for the Internet Consortium and SLC member libraries. - Maintain, operate, administer and support servers (Linux and Windows), operating systems, and system software. - Assist member libraries with the administration of local servers, thin clients and local networks as needed. - Implement and maintain software solutions for public access computers and print control. - Provide training and workshops on technology for member library staff. - Manage IT security risk assessments and implement security tools, controls and standards. - Administrate internet filtering, antivirus software, and spam filters. - Setup, configure and maintain firewalls for the Cooperative and member libraries. - Implement new content and web functionality. - Maintain website and related server and network infrastructure. - Register domain names and configurations for member libraries as needed. - Stay abreast to new and trending technology and evaluate how it would be relevant to current library needs. - Ability to travel to Cooperative Libraries on a regular basis some requiring overnight stays. Some Libraries are a 5 hour drive from the Cooperative main office. *Qualifications* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or related field 3+ years experience with supporting multiple networks of 100+ computers and servers Strong Knowledge of Windows Desktop OS and Windows Servers OS Strong Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and Firewalls Knowledge of the Linux (Ubuntu) OS Basic knowledge of HTML/XML, CSS and Content Management Systems Valid Michigan driver’s license and transportation for travel Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but those received by 5 o'clock pm on 6/30/2018 will receive first consideration.
