Nature of Work/Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Business Office Manager coordinates a variety of administrative, financial, human resources, and clerical tasks to support the library administration. This position is responsible for maintaining library administrative files and records, including payroll/personnel, financial, and benefits. Duties include: * With library accountant, manages accounts payable, helps prepare monthly financial statements, and assists with annual audit * Handles library banking activities including maintenance of all bank accounts and preparation of deposits * Maintains records for all revenues collected; tracks all petty cash and credit card transactions * Reviews and evaluates insurance renewals and handles insurance claims * Maintains library personnel records according to legal requirements * Completes necessary paperwork for employee hires and terminations * Compiles payroll, including reporting hours worked by each employee every two week period * Maintains personnel database, including benefit accruals, and provides staff current, accurate balances * Complies with legal requirements for administration of human resources and keeps abreast of changes * Handles unemployment claims, short-term disability claims and COBRA requests for benefits * Serves as liaison between benefit providers and YDL employees * Assembles and distributes the monthly Library Board packet and posts meeting notices * Attends monthly Library Board meetings and records Board minutes * Other duties as assigned Qualifications and Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Degree in business, finance, accounting, or human resources or certificate in bookkeeping or comparable experience * Minimum of five years successful related work experience, non-profit or governmental background desired * Accuracy and skill in word processing, arithmetic, English grammar and spelling * Proficient in Windows, Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, Excel, and Filemaker and quickly learns new software * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and supervisor * Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize work, and set priorities * Knowledge of general office procedures, library principles, and general records management * Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with public and staff, including the ability to explain benefit and employment concepts in basic terms * Ability to maintain confidentiality of library records, personnel and administrative matters * Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines * Positive public service attitude Salary/ Benefits: $48,000-58,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. Nature of Work/Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Technology Manager, the Computer Systems Technician performs routine tasks to support the technology needs of staff and patrons at all YDL facilities. Will work with PCs, tablets, printers, library automation, wi-fi, RFID, self-check, copier/faxes, A/V equipment, UPS systems, payment solutions, telephones and server room/data closet management. Duties include: * Install and maintain upgrades for computer software, hardware, and other peripheral equipment. * Provide end user help desk support for both staff and patrons. Assist staff in routine troubleshooting. * Assist with server maintenance, including backups, updates, and anti-virus software. * Provide secondary support to Technology Manager to monitor, analyze, and respond to system events and error logs as well as monitoring and troubleshooting network connectivity. * Develop and maintain inventory database for all Library equipment. * Develop documentation as needed. May write and revise user training manuals and procedures. * Evaluate technology to determine need for upgrades and new products, including hardware, software, and appropriate licensing and network agreements. * Collect, evaluate, and report on usage statistics and trends. * Effectively communicate technology-related problems and resolutions. Qualifications and Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in computer-related field preferred. * Working knowledge of wireless networks (laptop wireless settings) * Working knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy * Working knowledge of current MS operating systems and MS Office suites * Understanding of basic networking (TCIP/IP, DNS, DHCP) * Strong hardware troubleshooting skills and familiarity with remote support * Knowledge of antivirus software and malware remediation * Familiarity with imaging solutions * Web development skills desirable, working knowledge of Drupal a plus * Ability to maintain confidentiality * Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks * Ability to function in a professional manner, work independently, and use good judgment * Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends * Excellent communication and organizational skills * Valid driver's license required Salary/ Benefits: $34,320 annual salary ($16.50/hr), and a comprehensive benefits package including generous paid time off, twelve paid holidays, family coverage for health, vision, and dental insurance, an employer contribution to retirement and a voluntary 457 plan. Hi! Attached are the grant applications for the Metro Detroit Book & Author Society to be presented at the Fall luncheon. The 2017 Elaine R. Irvin Friends Award Applications are invited for a $1,000.00 Elaine R. Irvin Friends Award grant to be awarded to a Friend of the Library group in the metropolitan-Detroit area by the Metro-Detroit Book & Author Society. This grant is awarded to support a program or project that fills a significant need affecting the library’s patrons and community. Friends of the Library groups in the metropolitan-Detroit area are eligible to apply. The grant will be presented at the Fall 2017 Book & Author Luncheon on Monday, October 16, 2017, at Burton Manor in Livonia. The winner will receive two complimentary tickets to the Fall 2017 luncheon and must be present to receive the grant. The award was established to honor the late Elaine R. Irvin, who was a devoted member of the Metro-Detroit Book & Author Society Board for many years. Elaine worked for the Friends of the Detroit Public Library and was dedicated to the principle that “good libraries need good Friends.” The 2017 Dick Johnston Award Applications are invited for a $1,000.00 Dick Johnston Award grant from the Metro-Detroit Book & Author Society. This grant is awarded to a public library in the metropolitan-Detroit area for the purpose of establishing or improving a library collection. Public libraries in the metropolitan-Detroit area are eligible to apply. The grant will be presented at the Fall 2017 Book & Author Luncheon on Monday, October 16, 2017, at Burton Manor in Livonia.
