The Cos Cob Branch Library serves 6,800 Cos Cob neighborhood residents as well as the larger 62,000 residents of Greenwich. It is a vibrant and respected cultural hub of the community, offering a warm and welcoming environment for patrons of all ages and it enjoys a high level of use and support. The Branch Manager plays a key role in the Cos Cob community. This position works collaboratively with the Library Board, an active Friends group, area schools, and local civic and cultural organizations to meet the collections, services and programming interests and needs of area residents. S/he performs outreach and represents the Library in the community and at professional organizations and events. The Branch Manager also participates in system-wide committees and initiatives. Responsibilities include effective day-to-day operations and management of the branch facility and staff; patron services; staff scheduling; facilities management; direct provision of reference and reader's advisory services and technology support to patrons; planning and/or presentation of programs; ongoing evaluation and maintenance of a 30,000-item collection; selection, training and evaluation of branch staff; and working on system wide projects and committees. The position interprets and implements Library policies while participating in their development and participates in immediate and long-term strategic planning of the Library's services within its service community. A Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited program is required. Additional requirements include: four years of post master's professional experience in library work including a minimum of one year in a supervisory capacity or demonstrated experience overseeing a project from inception to completion. Desired knowledge, skills and abilities include, but are not limited to: strong oral and written communication skills; developing and implementing programs and services consistent with the library's strategic initiatives; mentoring, coaching and evaluating staff; and displaying and modeling tactful, courteous and positive customer service relationships with internal and external constituencies. Experience developing and implementing programming for all ages and previous success in building collaborative partnerships are preferable. Evening and week-end work is required. Summer Internship: Archives Assistant

Interlochen Center for the Arts is looking to hire Archive Assistants for the 2018 camp season. The dates of the contract are 6/18/18-8/6/18 and the stipend for the entire duration of the contract is $1,400. Housing is provided for the dates contracted (early arrival/late stay requests, if space is available, will be paid in full by the employee). All meals are included with your agreement- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is a great opportunity for those interested in an archival career. This position serves on the front lines of Interlochen’s young institutional archives initiative. Major Responsibilities: - Provide much-needed assistance in the organization of the archives - Conducting inventories across campus - Assisting in the digitization, cataloging of print and photographic archival materials, and assisting the archivist in a variety of capacities. - Handling, processing, and cataloging archival materials by providing standard metadata. - Handling negatives, slides, and print photographic materials. This position will be sharing its time (40 hrs/week) between the Institutional Archives and Photo Archives. Other assignments depend upon the interests and skills of the intern. The Branch Manager assigns, directs and supervises the work of the branch to align with the strategic plan and values of the organization. Accessing Online Content for Language Instruction Books

Greetings everyone! I need opinions and input from people. In the past couple of months, a lot of language instruction books that have been published (e.g., the Teach Yourself and Dorling Kindersley brands) with important parts and content just online. Here's the issue; you need to create an account with each vendor in order to gain access to the online content. I am bothered by that requirement. I don't want patrons receiving junk email from accessing a library book; to me, it reflects badly on the Library. What are people's opinions? Have you developed a workaround for this issue? Please let me know; I will be happy to make a list of people's responses. Thank you very much in advance for your help and suggestions!
