If you have an established Friends group, I would love to hear from you (or forward this to your Friends): 1. We are looking for samples of by-laws for Friends Group. 2. If your Friends group offers levels of membership, what are the levels & what are the dues per levels? 3. Does your Friends group have a 501c3 number separate from your library's? KDL is looking for the candidate who will contribute, collaborate, and work through consensus leading the branches and all aspects of public services. The successful candidate will connect people to the services they need through planning and implementing innovative programs and services through the Design/Think process. The Director of Branch Services and Operations reports to the Library Director and is a key member of the Library's Leadership Team. Key responsibilities include: administration of all public service operations within the Library branches and serving as the liaison between the branches and the administration; assisting with the Library's business plan; providing overall supervision, leadership, direction and guidance to public service managers in the planning and delivery of strategic initiatives and core services related to branch operations; ensuring staff is equipped with tools and resources necessary; assessing and evaluating branch performance; participating as a contributing member on KDL committees; and working with local, regional, state and national professional organizations. Minimum qualifications include a master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited program, a minimum of six years progressively responsible professional library work (including a minimum of four years in an administrative or supervisory capacity) and currently hold or have the ability to qualify for the Library of Michigan Permanent Professional Certificate. Essential attributes and skills include: a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the principles, methods and practices of public library operations; demonstrated management and leadership skills necessary to plan and administer the services to meet KDL's goals; the ability to work under general administrative direction with considerable latitude and independent judgment; excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate well with both internal and external stakeholders; and a thorough knowledge of current trends, technology and "best practices" for public libraries. Success working effectively in a union environment and multi-branch experience are desirable. Compensation. Wide distribution - please share with anyone who may want/need this training opportunity. There is still time to register for our online workshop, Copy Cataloging of Digital Resources Using RDA. Here is your chance to work with RDA (Resource Description and Access) as applied to the copy cataloging of digital resources. This hands-on workshop teaches participants how to catalog digital resources using such tools as the RDA toolkit, and the Library of Congress-Program for Cooperative Cataloging Policy Statements. All forms of digital resources, virtual materials, such as websites, eBooks, eSerials and downloadable audio books, music and video files, as well as physical media, such as video games, CD-ROMs and other computer disks will be addressed. The class will address copy cataloging in the MARC format. The workshop is scheduled for March 8-10 from 1:30om to 3:30pm EST. Hello, We have books we would like to donate/recycle and wondered if anyone has a suggestion for a service that will pickup from the library? We plan to use ROSEY for the items that they will accept, but we have encyclopedias and other reference items that are too old to meet the criteria for ROSEY. Thanks for any suggestions! MCLS Deadline to register for Classification Web workshop

The workshop is scheduled for March 1-3 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm EST. Classification Web is a product that enables anyone with access to the web to browse and search the full text of the LC classification schedules!
