Job Opening Holly Township Library Youth Services Manager 30-40 hours per week The individual holding this position will work under the supervision of the Library Director to plan and provide programming for children birth through high school as well as the promotion of all library services throughout the community. In addition some hours will be scheduled at the public service desk assisting patrons of all ages. Please see the attached job description for full details. Contacting home libraries for non-resident cards

Hi all, I was wondering how many of you call a patron's home library before entering a non-resident or guest card into your system. As part of the Library Network, the majority of our visitors have cards already in our shared system, but there are some that are not, including MILibrary Card holders. Do you call or contact these types of patron's home libraries before giving them privileges? If so, do you allow patrons some limited privileges before you validated that their account is in good standing? What methods do you use to contact and keep track of these patrons? Ignition Grants for Libraries Program, you must: *be either a unit of State or local government or be a private nonprofit organization that has tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code. These small grants encourage libraries and archives to test and evaluate specific innovations in the ways they operate and the services they provide. Sparks Grants support the deployment, testing, and evaluation of promising and groundbreaking new tools, products, services, or organizational practices. You may propose activities or approaches that involve risk, as long as the risk is balanced by significant potential for improvement in the ways libraries and archives serve their communities. Successful proposals will address problems, challenges, or needs of broad relevance to libraries and/or archives. A proposed project should test a specific, innovative response to the identified problem and present a plan to make the findings widely and openly accessible. To maximize the public benefit from federal investments in these grants, the Sparks! program will fund only projects with the following characteristics: Broad Potential Impact-You should identify a specific problem or need that is relevant to many libraries and/or archives and propose a testable and measurable solution. Proposals must demonstrate a thorough understanding of current issues and practices in the project's focus area and discuss its potential impact within libraries and/or archives. Rick Snyder to veto a campaign reform bill that would ultimately impact Michigan residents' access to campaign information. Senate Bill 571 was passed on Dec. 16, with amendments from the House including a provision that bars government employees from using public funds to distribute information about a local ballot proposal 60 days before it appears on the ballot. "While the intent of the Michigan legislature may be to ensure that government employees are proper stewards of public funding," said Feldman, "In actuality, this broad-sweeping bill prohibits one of their public bodies - the library - from doing one of its main jobs: providing the voters of Michigan unbiased access to information, including factual information about local campaigns and ballot measures. On behalf of librarians around the country, I urge the governor to veto this bill." The provision in question is Item 3, Section 57, which states: "A public body, or a person acting for a public body, shall not, during the period 60 days before an election in which a local ballot question appears on a ballot, use public funds or resources for a communication by means of radio, television, mass mailing, or prerecorded telephone message if that communication references a local ballot question and is targeted to the relevant electorate where the local ballot question appears on the ballot." In addition, public employees violating this ruling could be fined anywhere from $1,000 to $20,000 and could be imprisoned.
