ICLR Meeting Reminder: RSVP by April 28

*The International Collection Librarians' Roundtable (ICLR) is a grassroots, non-partisan group of Michigan librarians interested in developing international language, ESL, and literacy collections. Our Fall and Spring Conferences give librarians a chance to network, discuss new programming efforts, evaluate vendors or materials and share resources.* The Spring Conference will be held at the Detroit Public Library on Thursday, May 29th, 2014. 5201 Woodward Ave. Detroit MI 48202 Free parking will be available in the DPL lot which is off of Putnam Street. The tour of the DIA's Library will begin at 10 a.m. The Detroit Institute of Arts is located directly across Woodward from DPL. Following the DIA tour, we will have our meeting and lunch in the Explorer's Room at DPL. Lucy Roehrig has graciously agreed to run the meeting. Let's all help make this meeting a success! Some of us have been developing language collections for a long time, and some of us are newbies looking for input. Be prepared to share something new that you are doing, thinking of doing, discoveries you have made, new vendors you have tried, or questions you have for the group. Please RSVP by Monday, April 28. Survey on Work Engagement in Libraries

The research looks generally at how positive psychology in the workplace can be beneficial to both the employee and employer. The study is designed to analyze various predictors of work engagement in library professionals. Work engagement is a multi-faceted positive psychology construct that has been shown to predict increased performance, better health of employees, motivation, and much more. This study will take 20-25 minutes of your time but some may finish sooner. No personally identifying information will be collected about you. Technology & Trends Workshop: Jump-roping with the Standards Bearers

Registration for MLA Technologies & Trends 2014 is still open--get the "early bird" rate until May 9! MLA's 2014 Technology & Trends workshop will highlight new and useful library technologies in breakout sessions on a variety of topics. Whether you work in a public, academic, school or special library, you will learn practical applications of technology to aid you in your library work. The MLA workgroup has put together a comprehensive schedule, including a session called "Jump-roping with the Standards Bearers: Using technology to assess authentic learning and applied mastery." Participants in this session will have the opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of standards-based grading apps, such as Jumprope, to assess media literacy.
