Comprise Technologies and other POS systems

We are considering Comprise Technologies for managing our computer access, e-commerce, and point of sale needs, and we want to get some feedback. If your library uses Comprise, which modules are you using? Are you happy with the software's performance? While we are interested in all the modules, we are particularly interested in purchasing a point of sale system such as Smart Money. Is anyone using the SmartPay / Smart Money modules with Comprise? The Library Research Service, an office of the Colorado State Library is offering a series of hands-on workshops covering data collection, evaluation, library impact and tips for aligning research efforts with national initiatives. Titled the "Research Institute for Public Libraries" or RIPL, this event will be a three day series of intensive workshops held in Colorado Springs July 27th - 30th, 2015. The current cost of RIPL, which includes lodging and most meals is $975. Transportation to the event is not included. 2015 Great Lakes Resource Sharing Conference Call for Proposals

On behalf of the Conference Program Committee, we would like to invite you to submit a proposal for the Great Lakes Resource Sharing Conference. The event will be held in Kalamazoo, Michigan at the Radisson on Friday, June 5, 2015. This conference is an opportunity for individuals working in resource sharing to gather information and communicate with other colleagues. We invite program proposals from September 15, 2014 to January 16, 2015. Accepted program proposal submissions should be 45 minutes in length including time for questions. Volunteer Readers Needed for Write Michigan

Hello all! If you've ever wanted to be part of an exciting endeavor, here's your chance to review entries for the Write Michigan Short Story Contest. * Who: Looking for volunteers, Friends of the library members, book club members, retired schoolteachers and librarians- AKA people who like to read!-to help us vet hundreds of entries into the top 10 semi-finalists' stories in three age categories. * What: Volunteer as a reviewer for entries into the Write Michigan Short Story Contest. This contest is a partnership between Kent District Library, Schuler Books and Music and the Herrick District Library. Write Michigan accepts entries of 3,000 words (or less) short stories from writers of all ages who live in Michigan. Winners will receive cash prizes and be published in an anthology by Chapbook Press. * Where: Submissions will be available for review online. Volunteers will be given a login. * When: Reading/reviewing will take place from December 3, 2014 and January 4, 2015. Contest ends November 30. * How: volunteers are asked to read entries in one of three categories (adult-18+; teen-12-17; youth-under 12). o Each volunteer will have 10-13 stories total. o Each story will be read by two volunteers. o Story authors will not be disclosed but we ask that if volunteers have entered the contest or have family members who did, they please review a different contest category. o Please find our judging criteria here: http://www.writemichigan.org/JudgingCriteria.pdf. E-rate Workshops for Library Staff Around Michigan

The Library of Michigan is able to address the need for regional E-rate training this fall with help from the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). First, our long-time consultant Linda Schatz will be at the Library of Michigan on November 20th for an all-day session on E-rate. The focus will be on updates and changes to the program. It is not specifically for newbies. Time: 8:00 - 4:30. Cost: $35. This session will solely contain library-specific information. Participation is limited to staff from Michigan libraries. In addition, the Michigan Department of Education has graciously invited Michigan library staff to attend the regional training that they are providing in six locations during October and November. Individuals well-versed in E-rate will be presenting the training along with a representative from E-rate Central. At each location, there will be a two-hour session on the changes coming to E-rate in the morning from 10:10 to 12:10: "Come learn how the Universal Service Fund (USF) E-rate program is evolving in its Funding Year 2015. This funding year is anticipated to be the first of several years in which there are going to be changes that will dramatically affect the E-rate program. Better known as E-rate 2.0 these changes will transform the program. Anticipate positive and negative impacts to the scope and what services are eligible for funding" And a two-hour session in the afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00: "designed for those who are new to the E-rate process or those who would like to rejuvenate their skills. This training will go over the basics of the form 470 and 471 and also the changes for the 2015 funding year." You are welcome to attend morning, afternoon, or both. Training is free to attendees. The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) is one of the largest and most respected cultural affairs agencies in the nation. DCA and NMSL are located in beautiful, historic Santa Fe - New Mexico's heart of governmental, artistic, and cultural activities. The State Librarian will have expansive partnering opportunities with other divisions within DCA including museum and historic sites' education programs and collections, and preservation, arts, and archaeological programs. The New Mexico State Library <http://nmstatelibrary.org/> has a staff of 47 full time employees and an annual budget of $5.7 million. The successful candidate will administer relevant and valued services to over 100 public and tribal libraries in New Mexico and will generally promote an effective statewide library system. The State Librarian will advocate for and oversee the provision of services directly to New Mexico's culturally diverse and special populations; and will foster positive and cooperative working relationships with other educational services and state and national library agencies. Understanding the roles of contemporary libraries in today's societies, the State Librarian will move progressively toward a future with innovative programs and services while continuously evaluating and supporting those of value that currently exist. The State Librarian will be responsible for administering grants-in-aid, library extension, development services, and the state documents depository program. The State Librarian will perform other duties as provided by the law and assure that NMSL meets all statutory requirements of the State of New Mexico. The successful candidate will have a strong and positive record in policy administration and strategic planning, budget planning and execution, leadership, and personnel management. The candidate will also possess the desire and ability to construct effective coalitions and work successfully with legislative, governmental, and other policy-making bodies. Knowledge and understanding of current library technologies are valuable assets an ideal candidate will bring to the position. A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to a wide variety of audiences will be essential to the candidate's success as the State Librarian. Support of New Mexico public and tribal libraries is central to the mission of the State Library; accordingly, some public and/or tribal library experience is preferred. REQUIREMENTS: . A Master's Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited library program, eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in libraries that includes at least five (5) years of experience in library management and/or administration. . Record of successful experience in management, policy administration, budgeting, and planning for a similar entity to the State Library. . Demonstrated ability to direct a complex organization, evaluate program performance, and implement effective solutions to ensure ongoing program refinement and enhancement for improvement. Salary compensation: $75,000 - $85,000 per year.
