toner scam

I hadn't heard anything about the toner scam in a long time. I (mistakenly) thought they had gone away. Just had a call that was obviously the scam. Southfield Library Closed

Save the Date - Securing Your Library in Troubling Times - April 10, 2014

On April 10, 2014, the Cooperative Directors Association, the Library of Michigan and the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) will provide a program instructing and preparing librarians for a worst case scenario, an Active Shooter situation. The program will be held at Lansing Community College West Campus and will be available through live web stream for remote viewing. Balancing the tenant of libraries as free and open spaces while ensuring the safety of staff and patrons is an ambitious challenge. There are bad actors and some so lost they barely comprehend their actions. As stewards of our buildings, the charge for librarians is to prepare for the worst; arming ourselves first with knowledge, then acting accordingly. In partnership with the Michigan State Police, the day will consist of training from the State Police about personal safety and developing an Active Shooter policy and procedures. There will be input from librarians who have dealt with violence in their workplaces and instruction on layout and design of library space to reduce risk. Please share with your library customers: Michigan College Goal - FAFSA Completion Support Want more of your students to aim for college? Michigan College Goal is an initiative focused on helping students successfully complete the FAFSA. Once students see how much aid they can get, 9-in 10 students who file the FAFSA are motivated enough to enroll in college. And that helps build a college going culture at your school. Here's how to make that happen: 1. Announce Michigan College Goal to your students through morning announcements and in the classroom. 2. Post and distribute flyers. 100 flyers and 1 poster will be mailed to ALL Michigan high schools in January and you can print off more here: http://www.micollegegoal.org/Volunteers/Home.aspx. They can be found on the right hand side of the page under the announcements column. 3. Announce Michigan College Goal through emails, newsletters, and auto-call messages to parents saying something like, "How much could your seniors get for college and career education?
