EMPLOYMENT: Capital Area District Libraries (CADL) provides library services to our local communities seven days per week. All positions will require some evening and weekend hours, including Sundays. While this position is currently assigned at the above location, CADL reserves the right to require all employees to be available for assignments at any CADL location. EDUCATION & Possession of a Master's Degree in Library Science or its EXPERIENCE: equivalent from an ALA accredited institution. Possession of a Michigan Librarian's Professional Certificate. This is an entry-level position. Second Language speakers desired. NATURE OF Under the supervision of a Branch Head, provides reader's WORK: advisory and reference assistance to patrons of all ages with emphasis on leadership roles in youth services and programming. Develops and maintains assigned library collections; provides one-on-one and group training for library patrons and staff; provides programming for youth and adults. Expertise in technology and digital library resources preferred. Also performs professional work in reader's advisory service, collection development, reference, acquisitions, or other specific fields. Offer outreach services with and to public, schools and community. May supervise the work of support staff. May act as in charge staff member of branch. Great Michigan Read: Annie's Ghosts

Hello everyone. Our four different book discussion groups will be discussing Annie's Ghosts by Steve Luxenberg between January and May 2014. Though I've ordered enough copies to share between the discussion groups, I would like perhaps 10 to 20 more copies to feel safe that I will have enough copies for other patrons who wish to attend. I was so excited about it that I asked her how we could get the rest of the staff trained. She said she would be glad to come and give a presentation at our library. I discussed it with my Director, Mary Karshner and we decided to schedule and date and open up the workshop to all interested TLN Librarians. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, December 10th from 10-12. If you would like to attend, please respond to me at maryann(a)ropl.org or Mary Karshner, at mary(a)ropl.org. by Monday, December 8th at the lates. Light refreshments will be served. We are not open until 12 on Tuesday, however, someone will greet you at the library entrance. Also, parking is not free in Royal Oak, so please bring quarters for the meters. City Librarian-Decatur Public Library (IL) Applications Close December 16! The Decatur Public Library <http://www.decatur.lib.il.us/> Board of Trustees seeks a City Librarian to shape the future of Decaturs library services and explore new opportunities to serve the community. The new City Librarian will work with the Library Board, staff, Foundation members and stakeholders to develop a new strategic direction and focus for the Library; serve as the face of the Library in the community it serves; devise and implement innovative and creative plans to position the Library for the future; work with and support the Friends and Foundation members of the Decatur Public Library; and explore alternative revenue sources. The successful candidate will find a library with significant challenges and outstanding opportunities. Governed by a nine-member, appointed Board of Trustees, DPL is a vital library serving the 76,000 residents of the city of Decatur, Illinois. The Library currently has a staffing level of 36.5 FTE and anticipates a $3.4 million budget for 2014. In 2012, the Library staff at DPL circulated over 500,000 items and provided more than 400 programs to Decatur citizens. The Shilling Local History room has a stellar collection of local Decatur resources. The gallery, in the spacious 100,000+ square foot facility, hosts many traveling exhibits and displays. The Library is also part of the Illinois Heartland Library System <http://www.illinoisheartland.org/> . Located in central Illinois, Decatursometimes known as the soybean capital of the world -- is equidistant between Springfield, the state capital, and Champaign-Urbana, home of the University of Illinois.
