Program recommendation: Tom Carr MI true crime author
by David Stokes 22 Mar '22

22 Mar '22

Hello there, Last night we hosted Michigan true crime author Tom Carr to discuss the 3rd and latest book in his "Blood on the Mitten" series: *Dark Side of the Mitten: Crimes of Power & Powerful Criminals in Michigan's Past & Present. * We'd had Tom out twice before: in the fall of 2017 for his 1st book *Blood on the Mitten*, and in the fall of 2019 for his 2nd book *MI Bad*.. Last night we had a modest-sized crowd, which is most likely attributable to the fact that we've only recently resumed in-person programs here. His previous presentations in the past, however, were well-attended. If you've not had Tom out before he's very personable, knowledgeable and easy to work with. Not to mention, you usually can't go wrong with true crime programs as it's a popular interest. David M. Stokes Adult Services Librarian Adult Services Dept. by Shira Pilarski 21 Mar '22

21 Mar '22

Hi everyone, The BCALA (Black Caucus of ALA) and GNCRT (ALA’s Graphic Novels & Comics Round Table) Collaborative Committee is seeking submissions for our 2022 Teen Design Contest. Our Committee has created a brand new list of 50 comics titles for Juvenile, Young Adult, and Adult audiences centered on Black creators, Black stories, and Black histories, and we would like the list to be formatted into a printable pdf with original cover art by a teen group. Submissions must come from an adult liaison, such as the teen group’s librarian or teacher. The adult liaison will keep the teens’ personal information, and the Committee will communicate with the adult liaison rather than directly with the teen group(s). See the rules here: https://bit.ly/3nv19Be See the attached Press Release for more info. Please excuse cross-posting.
