Hello Everyone: Rochester Hills Public Library is looking for 3-4 libraries to partner with us for a Great British Bake Off Presentation from Claire Evans. Claire has presented at several libraries on a variety of UK food and travel topics. Her Great British Bake Off themed presentation is centered around tea, regional specialties, and their origins. The deadline to partner with us is June 9th. Patrons will sign up through our event calendar and the program will be presented through Zoom. Cost per library will be $137 billed to their organization. The date and time is set for September 7th at 7 PM which will coincide with the new season of The Great British Bake Off Show. May 5, 2023, 10:00am-11:30am (ET) - Actions NOT Words - Addressing Illegal and Harmful Behavior Using Existing Laws Verbal abuse, harassment, stalking, theft, threats, vandalism. Michigan libraries are experiencing a rise in the incidents of disturbing and frightening patron behavior connected to book challenges and other controversial topics. While there are few laws that specifically protect libraries, there are existing laws that criminalize certain behaviors. This session will discuss these laws and how to recognize whether behavior might fall within their limits, and, how to initiate a legal complaint. Participants in this event will be able to: 1) Identify Michigan laws protecting against theft, assault, harassment, stalking and other behaviors on the rise in libraries. 2) Discover how to recognize if a behavior might fall under one of these laws. 3) Identify steps to take to initiate appropriate legal action to deter illegal behavior. free security gates

Hi all, It's time that these gates find a new home. It's a single lane RFID gate. To the best of my knowledge, the gate is still operational. It was only removed because we have a double door entryway. This is for pick up only as I would not be able to fit this in my vehicle. DUTIES * Monitor patrons' use of the library public computers and enforce computer use policy. * Manage patron issues in the computer lab, and enforce all of the policies around that, food, noise, time, managing Envisionware. * Assist technology center patrons, troubleshoot computer hardware and software issues. * Apply a full working knowledge of all forms of technology, especially laptops, smartphones, tablets, and e-readers. * Maintain the library's public calendar and enforce room use policy. * Assist with teaching computer classes to the public. * Perform related duties as required. REQUIREMENTS * High school degree or GED equivalent and a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours of college credits. Applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Selected candidate(s) must submit proof of educational attainment and official transcripts at time of offer. * Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public, library staff, library volunteers, and other City departments. * Ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, fast-paced environment, using excellent organizational and time management skills. * Proficiency with electronic resources, Microsoft Office applications, social networking sites, and mobile technology. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Proficiency using multiple devices and platforms, including iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows. * As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana). PREFERENCES * Prefer college coursework in Library Science. * Prefer previous clerical experience and strong keyboarding/data entry skills. * Strongly prefer recent experience working with the public in a technology support environment. * Experience with library electronic resources, e.g. OverDrive, Hoopla, and other relevant software. HOURS * Part-time; Year-round. * Average of 20-25 hours per week; Schedule will include at least one evening shift per week and at least two weekend shifts per month. * This position offers forty (40) hours of paid time off (PTO). The Indian River Area Library is a Class II Library, serving over 4,000 community members. We are located in the heart of downtown Indian River, Michigan, right in the center of town. *HOURS: *Part-time, hourly wage, 12-15 hours weekly.
