Hello All! Here is a link to the explanation of the Minimum Wage and Paid Leave changes by Mike Blum and his team at Foster Swift: https://www.fosterswift.com/communications-2122.html It is a good idea for libraries to consult their attorneys before determining any changes to their policies. Surplus Vegetable Seeds Taken
by Jonesville District Library 01 Aug '24

01 Aug '24

I'm so happy to see so many libraries with seed libraries in Michigan! I had over 20 responses within 12 hours of posting my surplus vegetable seeds email. I am working on packaging the seeds up into smaller amounts to share to as many libraries as I can. I will send out an email on Friday letting the libraries (in the order their response came to me) who is receiving my extra seeds. Hopefully, as the season winds down, more libraries can share their surplus. What a great response! Thanks, -Laura at Jonesville District Library zv186

Resources Fun, Easy, and Cheap STEAM programs! <https://www.alsc.ala.org/blog/2024/07/fun-easy-and-cheap-steam-programs/?_z…> - ALSC Blog, 7/27/24 Heather Love Beverley writes: "Library science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) programs give kids a chance to explore and experiment in a safe and judgment-free zone: They get all the fun of science, without having to worry about grades. And while science can seem like it's daunting, in reality, STEAM programs are some of the most fun programs you can offer in the library. They are creative, chaotic, and challenging in the best way, and one of the things I love best about it is that you really can't make a mistake. Even if a project doesn't work out, it really is just an experiment!" More Than Welcome: Libraries Serving Families of Young Children with Disabilities Are you interested in serving ALL children in your communities? Are you wondering how you might make your spaces, programs, and services more inclusive for children with disabilities and their families? The link below is to a recording of the "More Than Welcome: Libraries Serving Families of Young Children with Disabilities" webinar that our team provided in April 2024. The webinar is a culminating product of the IMLS-funded (LG-246297-OLS-20) Services for Children of All Abilities in Libraries: An Exploration (SCALE) project. The webinar was designed to convey how libraries can be more than just welcoming for families of children with disabilities. In addition to the webinar, our project team also created a customizable flyer that libraries can tailor to their own programs and services and integrate their own branding. The flyer is intended to be distributed to families of children with disabilities via local healthcare providers and community organizations and agencies. The flyer is also available via a link on the webinar recording site on YouTube. Finally, an "Inclusive Library Spaces and Programs for Young Children" self-assessment checklist is also available on the webinar recording site on YouTube. We hope these resources are useful as you continue to make libraries more than welcoming for children with disabilities! Marketing Intergenerational Programming
by Annie Spence 01 Aug '24

01 Aug '24

Good morning, I work at the Grosse Pointe Library and have been experimenting with intergenerational programming. I have typically been using the phrase "all ages" when I promote these programs, but I'm finding that the term "all ages" seems to signal all ages of children to our patrons. So, for example, my comic book making club had big families with children from 2-10 in attendance, but garnered no teens, adults, or seniors. I'm wondering if anyone has used different wording to promote intergenerational programs? I personally think "intergenerational" is a little wordy for a e-newsletter blurb, but I'm open to all ideas! Thanks so much, Annie Spence Outreach Librarian, GPPL
