Find an ACA Regional Lead Navigator in your area
by White, Shannon (MDE) 02 Oct '13

02 Oct '13

This PDF is from a presentation made by the Michigan Consumers for Healthcare recently. For those interested in finding partners in their communities I've highlighted some of the pages within the file that may be of help. For those that would like to find a local partner to invite to present a session or to help provide information to patrons I would take a look at the specific pages listed below to find names of organizations serving your region. The entire presentation is very helpful but now that the four main Navigators have been funded they will each be working with additional Regional Lead Navigators around the state and those on-the-ground organizations may be better able to respond to requests for presentations and in-person sessions. Page 8 - shows a map of Michigan with the ten regions that are used to provide services. Page 13 - shows a map of Michigan by county and the number of languages spoken in each county. Page 18 - shows a general list of places or people that can assist consumers in Michigan. Page 29 - shows the Regions (from page 8) and the Regional Lead Navigators for that geographic area. Page 30 - explains the role of Regional Lead Navigators Shannon ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Shannon D. White Continuing Education Coordinator Library of Michigan 702 West Kalamazoo, P.O. New ACA Resources from WebJunction - Printed forms and local help resources
by White, Shannon (MDE) 02 Oct '13

02 Oct '13

The following is a recent message from WebJunction regarding ACA resources. Below you can find information on Local Help and Printed Publications and Forms. Shannon Thank you for your interest in resources to support libraries in responding to patron requests about the Affordable Care Act! Many libraries are considering how best to address local needs regarding the ACA. This update aims to help library staff connect patrons to available resources and community experts that can provide assistance. Please feel free to share this update with any community partners that might be interested. Local Help * The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has soft launched LocalHelp.healthcare.gov<http://wc4.net/t?r=850&c=3633224&l=337856&ctl=48CABCF:37D71AC352E2C07854445…>, where individuals or organizations can enter their geographic location to identify local ACA consumer assistance destinations in their area. Local consumer assisters (including Navigators, Certified Application counselors, etc.) can provide personal help in applying for healthcare coverage through the ACA. This resource is also available in Spanish at ayudalocal.cuidadodesalud.gov<http://wc4.net/t?r=850&c=3633224&l=337856&ctl=48CABD2:37D71AC352E2C07854445…>. CMS has also made English and Spanish widgets<http://wc4.net/t?r=850&c=3633224&l=337856&ctl=48CABD5:37D71AC352E2C07854445…> available for those that may be interested in hosting this resource as a widget on their website. * Please be advised that, according to CMS, many consumer assistance organizations are still completing the training and certification process. The database will be regularly updated to add new locations as they become available, so check back frequently. Please also note that states operating independent health insurance marketplaces may have more details about customer support networks at their state's individual marketplace site. Unsure what type of marketplace is operating in your state? Visit the Get State Information<http://wc4.net/t?r=850&c=3633224&l=337856&ctl=48CABD9:37D71AC352E2C07854445…> page on HealthCare.gov<http://wc4.net/t?r=850&c=3633224&l=337856&ctl=48CABDE:37D71AC352E2C07854445…> to determine your state's approach and access the most relevant source for local marketplace information. Printed Publications and Forms * If your state is participating in the Federally-facilitated Marketplace, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has an online ordering system<http://wc4.net/t?r=850&c=3633224&l=337856&ctl=48CABE1:37D71AC352E2C07854445…> for print materials. Libraries are welcome to request these print materials from CMS, however, it is important to note that quantities are limited and stock is constantly changing. You will need to create an account to be able to view and order materials. Once you have an account, search on the keyword "marketplace" to see the available publications. * In the near future, CMS expects to add an option to order and/or download print versions of the Federal Application form (not available until open enrollment begins on October 1). While print forms will be an option, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply online because they will see real-time eligibility and available health insurance options. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Shannon D. New Government Documents: Followup
by Sarjeant, Bruce C 02 Oct '13

02 Oct '13

Well...I managed to get my work done yesterday and post before the full force of the shutdown went into play. Many of the agency websites and the documents linked to them might not be available today thanks to that. The USGS for example http://www.usgs.gov/, NOAA http://governmentshutdown.noaa.gov/, the Library of Congress http://www.loc.gov/home2/shutdown-message.html, and what I have noticed if an agency's website is still available, a note explaining to viewers that the website is not updated http://www.nlm.nih.gov/ and http://www.lre.usace.army.mil/. I did not check all agency websites<http://www.usa.gov/directory/federal/index.shtml>, though. As a Librarian, some services of the Government Printing Office that I need are offline https://selections.fdlp.gov/itemlister. The Washington Post has a blog about what will and will not remain available during this shutdown<http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/09/30/absolutely-every…>.
