BAY COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM FINANCIAL ANALYST/HR ASSISTANT The Bay County Library System is looking for a full time detail oriented individual who can multi-task in a fast paced work environment. The individual must have excellent people and communication skills. This position is responsible for the processing of all aspects of the automated payroll, general ledger recording and accounts payable functions, as well as monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports. This position coordinates and performs all of the Human Resource functions, (i.e. health insurance, dental insurance, workman's comp.) Experience with MAS 90 Accounting Software is a plus. Supervises two part time employees. Salary & Benefits - salary range $33,777 - $40,514, health insurance, dental insurance, 401k/457 deferred comp, vacation days, personal days and sick days. Experience & Qualifications - four year college degree with a major in accounting or business school degree in accounting. Minimum 2 years of payroll and/or human resource experience. Must possess excellent math, typing and computer skills. Project Increasing Diversity of Libraries (IDOL) Now Accepting Applications!

The School of Library and Information Science is accepting applications for its Project Increasing Diversity of Librarians (IDOL) Fall 2014 cohort. Applications will be accepted from February 1 – June 1. Project IDOL Fellows will receive full tuition for their MLIS degree, to be completed within 2 years, as well as the advisory support of individual mentors, and additional funds for books, conference travel and a personal computer. Project IDOL is a collaboration between the Wayne State University School of Library and Information Science and the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Library Alliance . WSU SLIS and the HBCU Library Alliance have received funding from the IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program to increase the diversity of the library profession. In this 3-year project, the two partner organizations will recruit, mentor, and provide/offer an online Master of Library and Information Science degree to 10 students from historically underrepresented groups in order to achieve greater diversity among practicing library professionals. SLIS will provide the education and the HBCU library alliance will assist with recruitment and retention through mentorship of the selected students by library professionals with senior level experience and prior mentorship training. Internet service providers

Our current internet circuit contract expires at the end of June, so we are looking at our options for migrating our internet connectivity to Charter Business or CenturyLink. we have heard good things about Charter: faster bandwith at a much lower cost than we are currently paying and a relatively painless migration process, but we have not heard about library experiences with CenturyLink. Can anyone share their experiences with making a migration to either company? Are you happy with the speed of the connection? Have you experienced any significant rate increases? Reader's Advisory Question

Hello Fellow Librarians, I am looking for a book that was published in or before 1995 that is full of short mysteries where the reader is suppose to figure out who did it or why a certain person is guilty of a crime. The answers to each story are printed somewhere in the book. I believe the end of each chapter may end with "Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury it is your job to decide....." Help with Career Day Presentation

Hello, My director and I have been invited to present at Career Day at our local middle school at the end of this month. We are excited to go, but are trying to find some ways to jazz up our presentation and make it more exciting. Personally, I think what we do at the library is loads of fun, but it isn't always easy to get tweens and teens to believe that. Anyway, besides just asking questions at the end and rewarding correct answers with candy, we were wondering if anyone else has had success making a similar presentation fun. If so, would you mind sharing how you made your presentation informative, but also entertaining? The presentation will run between 30-40 minutes. Feel free to contact me off list. Now in its twenty-fourth year, the Public Library Survey gathers data from more than 98 percent of public libraries across the country. In FY 2011, there were 8,956 public libraries in the United States, which served 299.9 million people or 95.3 percent of the U.S. population. Additional highlights follow. Visits and Program Attendance * There were 1.53 billion in-person visits to public libraries, the equivalent to more than 4.2 million visits each day (not including virtual visits). * Attendance at public library programs increased for the eighth year with 89 million people attending 3.81 million programs. Books and Collections * Public libraries circulated 2.44 billion materials, or 8.1 items circulated per person. * While books continue to comprise the majority of the nation's public library collection holdings, collections are shifting from print books to non-print and digital materials. Public Access Computers * There were 261,413 public access Internet computers available at U.S. public libraries * There were 341.5 million usage sessions on public access Internet computers at public libraries. Summer Programming Intern Assist library staff with the Summer Reading Program by registering patrons for the reading program; tracking/handing out prizes; assisting with programs; and using early literacy theories in planning and implementing storytimes. The intern will go through training on early literacy skills. Ability and willingness to interact in a friendly, positive manner with children and adults. Experience in working with children. Strong organizational skills. Ability and willingness to speak in front of groups of children and caregivers. Strong interpersonal communication skills. A genuine interest in children and their recreational and educational needs. Must be able to handle working in an environment that may be hectic and noisy. Wage: $9.00/hr for 20 hrs/week based on programming schedule needs. May require some evenings and weekends. Starts May 12 through Aug 9.
