Successful candidate will have considerable knowledge of legal issues and laws pertaining to the current administration, organization and operation of libraries of all types as well as legal issues and law pertaining to libraries in Michigan. This position provides support and consultation to library staff throughout Michigan and participates as a team member for statewide library development. Specifically, this position provides general consultation with a specialization in legal issues and laws related to libraries for the Michigan library community. Coordinates statewide activities for the Library of Michigan, including presentation of educational programs and the creation of resources related to legal issues and general library management. This position provides departmental staff with information and advice on legal issues of libraries. Extensive independent judgment and interpretation is required to carry out assignments that have impact on libraries in Michigan as well as services or programs provided by the Library of Michigan. The position represents the Library of Michigan at state and national levels, participates in pertinent professional associations and acquires continuing education essential to carrying out job responsibilities. Requirements: ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science and three years of administrative or consultative, professional, librarian experience, including one year equivalent to a Library Consultant P13. Preferred: Ideal candidate will also have a Juris Doctorate and membership in good standing with the Michigan State Bar. I'm interested in information about Internet based phone systems. If you have such a system, are you happy with it? Is it prone to outages? How do you handle faxing for patrons? And, what's the brand? Anyone have RingCentral? Thanks for any information. Jennifer

Great biking program

Hello! If you’re looking for an interesting speaker, I highly recommend Rob Pulcipher. He gave a slide presentation here recently on bicycling in southeast Michigan. He covered some of the history of how biking trails developed and showed slides of good areas for dirt road and urban biking. His two books, “Best Bike Rides Detroit and Ann Arbor” and “Dirt Road Washtenaw: Biking the Back Roads,” were also available for sale. We had a good turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) Site, Including State Park Passes, Now Available: Do You Know What Time It Is? It's MAP Time!

All, I am pleased to report that while the official kick-off for MAP is Sunday, May 24, you and your patrons can see the hugely expanded (112 venues last year, 370+ this year), 2015-2016 edition of the Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) program, RIGHT NOW, at http://michiganactivitypass.info Indeed, many of your patrons have already discovered new, improved and vastly expanded MAP, as we've had a large number of checkouts, beginning with a trickle Wednesday evening when we first put up the new site but really taking off yesterday, Thursday. We expect ginormous MAP checkout numbers over the long holiday weekend. For those whose library staff and patrons might be brand new to MAP, or for those who are familiar with MAP but need a refresher course, Brigette at TLN created this very helpful, Detailed Help document: http://tln.lib.mi.us/images/MAP/How%20to%20check%20out%20a%20Michigan%20Act… The Detailed Help document is also available at the new MAP website. Of course there are many (most, actually) library patrons, not to mention all library staff, whose tastes are far more sophisticated than mine are. Our software developer/programmer has spent a ton of hours, some of which I know about and many more that I don't, working to make our MAP program software the best that it can be. TLN is closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I don't anticipate any problems with the MAP website during that time. Between planting flats of impatiens, petunias and marigolds and eating hot dogs at a Toledo Mud Hens game I will be checking work email, as well as the gmail account that is linked to MAP help, during the holiday weekend.
