MCLS is committed to supporting the community engagement efforts of libraries in Indiana and Michigan. We have upcoming community engagement roundtable discussions scheduled in both states. With each round of discussions, we're moving around the states to try to be near as many librarians as possible. MAP: Updated Brochures Now Available

All, Thanks to a lot of hard work by TLN's Brigette Felix, the updated Michigan Activity Pass brochures for the new season of MAP, its 10th, covering the period May 24, 2017 through May 23, 2018 are now available. Dear Library Directors, Does any district library or public library in Michigan operate in a building that they do not own? or share a building with another entity? In our situation we are are landlocked and need more space. We don't have enough money to build a new building and our community could not support this expense. The school is moving out of one of its buildings as they have added on to one of the other schools and are consolidating classes. This leaves an empty 40,000 sq. ft. building that needs major repairs. A well known community member has offered up to 1 million dollars to fix the problems with the old school building such as new roof, heating and air-conditioning. We have been asked to consider moving the Hartford Public Library into the building. It will be considered a community center. We would be the largest participant considering occupying 15,000 sq ft. approx. We will still maintain our name. The other participants will be the Hartford Senior center and the adult education classes. The project hinges on our participation. It is a win win situation for us, because of our space issue, but the Board is concerned about such a move. There are lots of big details to discuss before an agreement can be made. There is one position available and the level will be determined based upon the successful applicant's qualifications. The Web Designer/Developer will design, implement, and maintain a responsive CMS-based website for the Olson Library. Develop web-based tools, applications and databases. Conduct some usability testing to improve the user experience. Provide similar support to personnel in other Academic Information Services units as needed. The Web Designer/Developer II will design, implement, and maintain a responsive CMS-based website for the Olson Library. Develop web-based tools, applications and databases. Assist with integrating 3rd party applications into new and existing websites/applications. Conduct a wide range of usability testing and utilize analytics to improve the user experience. Optimize, evaluate, and offer improvements for SEO. Provide similar support to personnel in other Academic Information Services units as needed. Minimum qualifications: Associate Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field. Web Designer/Developer I: One year of experience in web application development, programming or related field. Web Designer/Developer II: Bachelor's Degree in the above with three years of experience in web application development, programming or related field OR an Associate Degree with five years of experience in web application development, programming or related field. Knowledge/skills/abilities required: Web Designer/Developer I and Web Designer Developer II: Experience working with PHP and MySQL. Experience using web and graphic design software. Knowledge of accessibility and web development standards. Strong communication, organizational and problem solving skills. Team oriented and the ability to work effectively with others. Web Designer/Developer I: Experience with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Knowledge of accessibility and web development standards. Web Designer/Developer II: Proficient with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Proficient writing SQL queries to extract, update, and format data. Experience with Drupal or other content management systems. The position is traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm; some on-call work may be required. The targeted salary range is $39,040-$40,992 at the Web Designer/Developer I and $42,240-$44,352 at the Web Designer/Developer II.
