Spanish library lingo
by Amanda Palomino 19 Jul '17

19 Jul '17

Our library is working on building up our resources to support a new Spanish program, including Spanish translations of some of our orientation materials. I'm interested in finding out what words other librarians are using to describe their services and resources to Spanish-speaking patrons (not just Google translations but meaningful interpretations!) - a few words I'm particularly curious about are "library catalog," "call number," "due date," "to check out," "subject heading," and "Interlibrary Loan." If you have any suggestions, please message me off-list at amanda(a)westernsem.edu! :) -- Amanda Palomino Library Technical Services Assistant ph 616.392.8555 x140 101 East 13th Street, Holland MI 49423-3622 [image: WTS_logo_email.png]

Please pass along to your library trustees! [cid:image003.jpg@01D30096.0D481AC0] [cid:image004.jpg@01D30096.0D481AC0] Library Journal, in partnership with United for Libraries, has created a survey for library trustees to benchmark basic library board demographics and procedures, and to chronicle how boards advocate for their libraries. Would you please either fill out the following survey, or forward this email to the person who is best suited to answer on behalf of your board (e.g., board president/chair/secretary)? We only need one response to represent each library's board. https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/3693211/Library-Trustee-Survey Aggregate results will be published by Library Journal in the fall and United for Libraries will use the data to focus on essential resources and training they can provide trustees. Spine label printing
by Clawson ILL 19 Jul '17

19 Jul '17

Happy Hump Day Everyone! Not too long ago, someone emailed this group about spine label printing. I seem to have lost the original email and wondered if the sender could please email me regarding this topic. What were the results that might have been off list? My experience is with the Dymo label maker and those labels have faded but we attributed that to fading from the sun, which now I'm not so sure about based on the two emails I didn't delete. One email also references a Bayscan printer, which model please? Thanks, Tina Russette Blair Memorial Library (Clawson) 416 N Main St Clawson MI 48017 248-588-5500

YAY! MAZZA exhibit coming to the Saline Dist. Library
by Shutta Crum 18 Jul '17

18 Jul '17

Passing this info along, please forgive any cross-posting! So excited! A MAZZA Museum exhibit is coming to the Saline District Library, Saline, Michigan. The MAZZA Museum houses "the world’s first and most diverse collection of original artwork by children’s book illustrators. Through these select pieces you will encounter the creative processes behind picture book art — cover work, color separations, editorial notes on preliminaries, character development sketches, preparatory storyboards, and much more." June 3rd through Aug. 26th. Make it a destination this summer! I'm going! And if you love children's books you really should take a trip to the University of Findlay in Ohio where the museum is. It is truly one of the gems of the Great Lakes region. More info at: http://www.salinelibrary.org/event/summer-art-show/ . Please pass this word along to writing groups, your children's librarians, teachers, other staff and patrons who may be interested. It's a great opportunity for all. Photo Release Forms
by Kay McAdam 18 Jul '17

18 Jul '17

VBDL is curious how other libraries handle publishing photos of patrons, specifically children, on social media. Do you require a parent’s signature on a photo release form or do you consider library programs and patrons as "public domain?” Thanks!
