We have reopened our summer library internship position. If you know of anyone interested, please spread the word. It's a wonderful summer experience here at Interlochen. DATES: 6/12/17-8/7/17 Interlochen Center for the Arts is looking to hire an Academic Library Intern for the 2017 camp season. The dates of the contract are 6/12/17-8/7/17 and the stipend for the entire duration of the contract is $1,525. Housing is provided for the dates contracted. All meals are included with your agreement- breakfast, lunch and dinner. Major Responsibilities This is a great internship opportunity for someone interested in librarianship as a career. This position serves the needs of the Interlochen Arts Camp by helping to provide campers, faculty, and staff with resources to support their arts specialty and personal interests while on campus. - Duties include circulation, shelving, book processing, and implementing summer programs. - This position also requires the ability to assist library patrons of various ages and interests with finding information by utilizing a variety of databases and the catalog. - Other responsibilities may include summer projects ranging from collections management to work on the library website. Qualifications - Applicants currently in an MLS program are preferred. - Applicants must possess excellent customer service skills, proficiency with technology, attentiveness to detail, and a willingness to participate in a team environment. - Experience with Mac OS and applications is desirable. Outreach Materials and Activities

I am putting together materials to take outside the library to a local festival. The library will have a booth at the festival and we will market summer reading and some of the things our community might not know that we have available. I am curious what other librarians have put together when attending such events. Are there any displays, handouts or activities that you find work really well or that the public seems to respond to? Recommended workshop

We just had Mardi Jo Link (author of Bootstrapper) present a 2-hour writing workshop called "Yes, you CAN write a memoir!" at Croton Township Library and it was excellent! I highly recommend her! Mardi shared many different strategies for writing, was very personable and engaging. Even a non-write would come away with some excellent ideas for writing for themselves. POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Head of Adult Services coordinates and administers library services and programs for the general adult population, including young adults/teens and older adults services. Under the direction of the Library Director, this person assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services. Collection development, as well as reference desk and other public service duties, are major components of the job. This person is responsible for supervising and scheduling approximately five staff positions. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an American Library Association accredited graduate school; Eligible for Level 1 Librarian’s Professional Certificate from Library of Michigan; Three years of professional public library experience with proven capabilities in management; Proficient with computer applications in a library setting; Ability to motivate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, colleagues, and the general public; Demonstrated ability to: effectively communicate orally and in writing; organize and supervise the work of others; plan and implement adult programming; project a positive image of the library; set priorities in a changing environment and make timely decisions.
