The School of Library and Information Science at Wayne State University is changing its name to the School of Information Sciences. The change was approved by the Wayne State Board of Governors in June and reflects the expanded coursework and degree options offered by the school, including a forthcoming master of science in information management. This position serves as the expert for E-Rate for the State of Michigan which provides discounts to help eligible schools and libraries to obtain affordable telecommunications and internet access. The specialist interprets Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Orders and serves as official technical specialist for Michigan. The specialist is Michigan's authoritative E-Rate source for Michigan applicants and the State of Michigan. The position engages in technical and legal discourse with the FCC on Michigan E-Rate proceedings and appeals. Specialist addresses high level cross office and interdepartmental concerns that impact E-Rate funding. Specialist designs targeted E-Rate training, communications, and technical assistance on behalf of Michigan E-Rate applicants in accordance with program rules and regulations. This position has a salary range of $50,502 - $75,358. JOB SUMMARY: The Head of Public Services is a member of the library management team assisting in planning, prioritizing, and setting goals for Marshall District Library programs and services. The Head of Public Services has responsibility for supervising the Public Services staff as well as coordinating the publicity, programming, outreach, and youth services functions of the Marshall District Library. The Head of Public Services oversees the development of educational and recreational programming for all audiences in addition to overseeing the marketing and publicity of library events in all media formats. The Head of Public Services will perform library outreach and develop programming partnerships in the community. This member of the staff provides direct public services at the Help Desk, and participates in collection development activities. The Head of Public Services may represent Marshall District Library at community events. REQUIREMENTS: ALA/MLIS required with a minimum of 3 years public library experience. Experience working with youth required. Supervisory experience preferred. Commitment to customer service excellence. Excellent communication skills essential. Ability to organize multiple assignments and work independently. Demonstrated initiative and creative problem-solving skills. Candidates with a BA/BS and a minimum of 5 years administrative experience in public libraries will also be considered. Additionally to perform the essential functions of the position, an individual may be required to maintain a physical condition necessary for sitting, moving, and/or standing for long periods of time; lifting or carrying light to moderately heavy objects; operating assigned equipment, including computers.
