Science Kits for Public Libraries Application Deadline: November 15, 2017 The IEEE Science Kits for Public Libraries Grant is offering up to $2,000 in funding to public libraries in the Michigan and Wisconsin area for the development of circulating math and science collections for pre-university students (K-12). The grant seeks to be a catalyst for educating students about how math and science are used for the benefit of humanity and to provide seed money for creation of library programs that will make a lasting impression. Past grants have allowed several Midwestern libraries to develop science kit circulating collections and give students access to prepared experiments and science materials that they might not encounter in the traditional classroom. Additionally, these libraries have created educational programs that allow students to conduct experiments at the library with the guidance of a librarian. This is a program of IEEE-Region 4 (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). Visit http://www.ewh.ieee.org/reg/4/SKPL-Apply.php for application forms, grant guidelines and to learn about the successes of past grant recipients. New MAP Partner Destination: Our Sweetest One Yet!
by Jim Flury 01 Nov '17

01 Nov '17

All, I hope you had a safe and happy Halloween. We had exactly one trick or treater at our house, which represented a whopping 50% decrease from our historical, annual average of two. The cold weather must have served to keep the other little one at home :) By now you may have grown weary of the numerous sugary temptations that present themselves in your home, at the grocery store, around your workplace, etc at this time of year. We have a cure for that: MORE CHOCOLATE!!! To that end, I am pleased to present our newest MAP partner, in the form of the Sanders and Morley Candy Factory Tour! https://www.sanderscandy.com/factory-tours I have been recruiting them since the years when MAP stood for Museum Adventure Pass, when the program featured just 30 destinations in libraries in the six county metro Detroit area only. Finally, success! It only took 10 years :) Of course, prior to embarking on the Sanders and Morley Candy Factory Tour you will want to watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NPzLBSBzPI Enjoy! Thank you for your support and promotion of the Michigan Activity Pass program. Sincerely, Jim F. Patron looking for lost bookmark
by Oscoda County Library 01 Nov '17

Good morning: I am hoping someone might be able to help. I had a patron recently return a MelCat item with a book mark that has a lot of sentimental value. Unfortunately we did not catch it here, perhaps one of your staff did. It is an older picture of a child in a uniform similar to a boy/girl scout uniform. Thanks for your help!
