In preparation for moving to a new catalog, we have been heavily weeding the j collection. I have always been afraid that we might have missed something and have erroneous information in the non-fiction section and try to keep to the five year limit. To all my favorite friends in library land.....I have a special meeting tonight at 6 p.m. for the purpose of discussing incremental increases in wages. (lol, I'm thinking you know where this is going!!) Do any of you have written guidelines to set you in the right direction in this area? Some of you are directed by union contracts, you probably don't need to answer this....it may depress me further!!!I want stuff like, after 6 months probation time...... new hires will be hired at....... after a yearly evaluation........ you will be rewarded after a total over all increase in.......... Are you a member of the Michigan library community that loves to create? If so, consider designing a logo to submit for the 2018 Loleta Fyan Small and Rural Libraries Conference Logo contest. The winning member of the Michigan library community will receive a complimentary registration to the conference and have their design included in the printed program. There is no limit as to how many logos you can submit. The 2018 Loleta Fyan Small and Rural Libraries Conference is scheduled for April 30-May2, 2018 at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, Michigan. The theme for the 2018 RLC (following the current library topic of diversity and inclusion) is "Open Doors, Open Minds." Please submit your artwork by September 1, 2017 in electronic format, to atkine(a)michigan.gov<mailto:atkine@michigan.gov> The winner will be announced along with the conference programs in January 2018. The State History Conference celebrates all aspects of Michigan's history and moves to a different location in the <http://www.hsmichigan.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/State-History-Conferen ce-flyer.pdf> Lower Peninsula each year to also explore that area's heritage. The main sessions of the conference will take place at the Haworth Inn & Conference Center at Hope College, and other events will be held at venues throughout the city. The conference is sponsored by Meijer Inc., the Edgar and Elsa Prince Foundation, Hope College, the Holland Museum, Van Raalte Press, and the Joint Archives of Holland. In addition, the State History Awards are presented during the conference. Each year, the Historical Society of Michigan presents a State History Award to those individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the appreciation and understanding of Michigan history. The three-day conference includes four keynotes - Fatal Crossing: the Disappearance of Flight 2501, Welkom to West Michigan, Flexing West Michigan's Wartime Muscle: The Other Half of Democracy's Arsenal, and Jazz 'Em Up Michigan.
