Employees in this classification may also be required to take charge of a branch on a temporary basis or serve as a substitute following the guidelines for scheduled hours, assigned tasks and supervision set forth in the GDL Policies and Procedures manual. An integral function of this position is the ability and willingness to train/instruct the public and staff on the use of PC software applications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * providing public service assistance to all patrons by: * providing courteous, sensitive and respectful treatment to all persons * providing direct and immediate service to walk-ins * placing and receiving telephone calls * performing required computer functions, e.g. Internet instruction * providing assistance to the librarian in maintaining and operating the branch by: * maintaining library materials collection and files in an orderly manner * assisting with routine duties * developing a working knowledge of all GDL equipment and services MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution. * General computer proficiency, including knowledge of library software and Microsoft Office products. * Training experience preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT The location will vary between branches of the Genesee District Library System, and the schedule will vary according to the needs of the public and the GDL System. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet and work is performed indoors. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. DeTour Public Library position

With the recent passage of the millage in DeTour, and their joining of the Superior District Library, we have an opening for an enthusiastic, creative, and innovative Library Manager at our newest member. This position has an immediate start date status because of the retirement by the current manager at the end of the month, but we will be flexible with the understanding that you may need to give notice at your current place of employment. This unique opportunity in DeTour Village, located on the far eastern tip of the Upper Peninsula, is in an idyllic harbor town on Lake Huron. Many of you may know it as the town where you catch the ferry to Drummond Island. The townspeople are friendly, and the sounds of ships passing through the fog can be heard on many nights. I personally have had the pleasure to live there for the past two years. The library is part of the school, which encompasses Kindergarten through High School, and also houses the DeTour Academy of Arts and Technology. They have an active Friends of the Library group, and the library serves both the school and the public, and is an integral part of the small community. Job Posting and Job Description are attached. Future Ready with the Library Cohort 3 Application Future Ready with the Library project funding is provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Through this project, the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) and the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) will support library staff as they work with a community partner to develop college and career readiness services. 35 participants will be selected for cohort 3.
