Library Director position-Louisville Public Library (OH) Are you ready to lead? The Board of Trustees of the Louisville Public Library<https://www.louisvillelibrary.org/home> seeks a responsive and team-oriented Library Director to provide support and direction to staff and bring experience and vision to the Library. Located in northeastern Ohio, the Library serves the 18,769 residents of the Louisville City School district. Governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees, the Library provides excellent and varied services and programs with 17.45FTE staff and a $1.2 million annual operating budget. Successful passage of a 1 mill operating levy in 2015 provides 33% of the Library's operating expenses, and the Library will have a 1 mill renewal levy on the ballot in November 2019. The Library recently debuted its ground-breaking Sensory Strategy Program and Space<https://www.louisvillelibrary.org/services/sensory-space>, which provides a unique area offering specialized equipment, programming and environment and is dedicated to the special-needs community. This program space was funded by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and is the first of its kind among public libraries in Ohio. Responsible for the efficient overall administration and operation of the Library. Develops and implements a strategic vision for the Library in coordination with the Board of Trustees. Responsible for all functions of the Library, including public and support services, facilities maintenance, purchasing, human resources, information systems, finance, and public relations. Evaluates, develops, recommends and implements Library policies, services and procedures in coordination with the Board of Trustees. Responsible for all budget and financial activities and implementation of such per the Library. Prepares agendas and reports for and attends all Board meetings and subcommittee meetings. Responsible for determining appropriate staffing levels, work performance standards, staff development, quality and quantity of services to be offered to the public, and the means and methods of offering those services. A Bachelor's degree and progressively responsible professional library experience including a minimum of three years of senior or high-level management and administrative experience is required. Experience in successfully engaging with a governing board, leading or supporting a fundraising campaign and/or promoting a local tax levy preferred. Compensation. IdentoGO - Identity verification (Federal and State)

Are any other libraries in the state a partner https://www.identogo.com/partners with IdentoGO as a fingerprinting and identity verification site for Federal and State programs: TSA TWIC cards, HME endorsement, TSA Pre check etc. We've been approached about adding this service, and I'd like to know more about how much staff time this *really* takes. Fun program idea - Beautifully Wrapped - Head wrapping workshop and exhibit

Hi, I wanted to let everyone know about a fun program and exhibit. Zarinah El-Amin Naeem is the owner of Beautifully Wrapped and she will come to your library and do a head wrapping workshop and demonstration. It is a fun program that we've had 3 times over the years and it keeps growing! We had 200 people come and everyone loved it. Zarinah will demonstrate a couple of different head wrapping styles from different cultures around the world on audience members, she tells the story of its origins and its significance and at the end of the program she has wraps for the audience to try it themselves. It is a great program for moms and daughters, red hatters, girls night out. The audience ends up being mostly women but the men in the audience enjoy it as well and Zarinah wrapped a gentleman in a turban at the last program. She also has an exhibit that she can bring to the program and/or display it at your library. We used it to build up excitement prior to the program. Staff Communication Ideas

Good Afternoon, We are in the process of constructing a new library and will be moving from a very open 1-floor building where staff can easily find each other to a 2-floor building where we will be more spread out. Just wondering how other libraries handle communicating in larger spaces. We will, of course, have phones at staff workstations but wondering about when staff are wandering through the stacks and we are sending a patron their way for assistance. We don’t really want to go old-school with pagers and we don’t really want to look like switchboard operators with big headsets either but not sure what other options are out there😊 Thanks for any ideas you have and are willing to share! Did you catch that we posted a full set of colorful, new web buttons to MeL.org that you can use going forward? What's more, we even provide the code to make it easy. Check out how great it can look on Cadillac Wexford Public Library's<https://www.cadillaclibrary.org/eshelf-research> page. They've broken up resources by subject area with headers and included short descriptions of the eResources. And here's an example of a Kids page of MeL eResources from the White Lake Community Library<https://www.wlclib.org/children/homework-help>. Where can you get the code? On MeL of course! Library Narcan Bills

Yesterday, Governor Whitmer signed HB 4367 (http://legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?2019-HB-4367) and SB 200 (http://legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?2019-SB-0200) These laws provide Michigan public libraries (and all Michigan government entities) with the ability to obtain and administer Narcan without fear of liability. The Library of Michigan would like to thank MLA, Gail Madziar, and the MDE Legislative liaisons, Caroline Liethen and Stephen DeGrow for all of their efforts on these bills. The Library of Michigan is preparing a detailed explanation of the new legislation and how Public Libraries can comply with the new law. Watch for this on MichLib-L in the coming days. MAP Software Error: No Passes

Call for proposals - Ex Libris Great Lakes User Group - for October 17-18, 2019 in Evanston/Chicago

We know it's summer and you don't want to think about work much, but we really want to hear about your ideas and tips and tricks about Ex Libris products. The strength of our community depends on members who are willing to share their expertise. Please consider sharing your experiences and innovations. Topics of interest include system migration, pre & post-implementation cleanup, interoperability, analytics, resource sharing, and technical/public services, among others.
