Hurry! The Facilitator’s Toolbox workshops are filling fast!
by Jan Davidson 28 Aug '20

28 Aug '20

Apologies for cross-posting, and for non-Michigan staff being included on some lists. Please feel free to share. Hurry! The Facilitator’s Toolbox workshops are filling fast! It seems a lot of Michigan library staff DO lead meetings at their libraries, facilitate conversations between staff or patrons, handle situations of conflict and need to guide groups to agreement, and see the value in more training on how to do so effectively, because the workshops we’re offering this fall in partnership with the Library of Michigan are filling up quickly! Does this describe YOU? There’s still a few spots open, and time to claim yours! The workshops, to be held online this year for your safety and convenience, will include learning theory, as well as practice of skills and peer feedback. They will still be very interactive, and we are excited to add a module on facilitating meetings virtually! https://www.mcls.org/training-events/events/facilitation-training-2020/ Questions? Email Jan at engagement(a)mcls.org<mailto:engagement@mcls.org>! This project is made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services<https://www.imls.gov/>. Additional funding is provided by the State of Michigan<https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/>. ********************** Jan Davidson Project Manager Engagement, Consulting, and Training Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) 517-492-3811 / toll-free 800-530-9019 x111 davidsonj(a)mcls.org<mailto:davidsonj@mcls.org> [facebook]<https://www.facebook.com/mcls.org> [twitter] <https://twitter.com/mclsorg> [square-logo-1 (002)] <http://www.mcls.org/>

Gigabit Libraries Webinar -- New wireless tools for expanded library WiFi access -- Friday at 11am Eastern
by Shannon White - Library of Michigan 27 Aug '20

27 Aug '20

On Friday at join Gigabit Libraries at 11:00 AM Eastern for another webinar as part of their "What is a Library if the Building is Closed" series. Facts and Fiction around 5G, the Outlook for WiFi 6 and Community Networking. How do they fit together to expand public access, resilience and infrastructure? Will these two new additions to the alphabet soup of telecom acronyms, 5G & 6E, change the way libraries might do business today and tomorrow? What role do libraries play in creation of community networks? Martha Suarez, President of the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance joins Jane Coffin, Senior VP of the Internet Society to give a wide view of critical components in creating comprehensive solutions to the connectivity gap. Radio technology innovations leap forward squeezing ever more bandwidth out of limited spectrum. With all the hype around 5G, what is it actually? How might it effect general connectivity levels. Can it be a new tool to help under and unserved communities connect themselves? What impact might we expect from the imminent release of WiFi 6? As traditional WiFi in the 2.4 and 5GHz bands gets chocked with overuse, will so called "6E" alleviate this congestion? Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/spectrum-community-networks-and-libraries-join… You can find more about Gigabit Libraries and the Pandemic Response resources available here: http://giglibraries.net/page-1712339 Shannon Shannon White Library of Michigan, 702 W.
