Cranbrook Academy of Art (Bloomfield Hills, MI) is seeking a Library Assistant (part-time, 20 hours/week). This position provides clerical and paraprofessional support. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Perform general circulation desk duties (check-out, check-in, renewals) * Assist students and library patrons with directional and reference questions * Process new books and other library materials * Oversee periodicals collection: check in new issues, claim missing issues, prepare volumes for binding * Prepare library reports, statistics, indexes, etc. * Maintain vertical file collections * Prepare monthly new acquisitions lists * Perform basic book repairs * Manage the library in the absence of the Deputy Director and Librarians (requires some weekend hours during the academic year) Requirements: * High School diploma or GED require, A Bachelor's degree is preferred. * An art background and/or library experience is preferred. * Experience with MS Windows/Office 365 is required. * Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills are required. * This position must work effectively with other library staff members, CAA students/staff/artists-in-residence, and the general public. * Strong customer service attitude is essential. * Problem solving skills are needed to assist patrons with reference and research inquiries. * The ability to multitask and to prioritize multiple projects is essential. Desk Staff - working at multiple service points

Greetings hive mind - If you work in a library system that has a staffing structure where 'desk staff' work in multiple departments or at multiple service point types, I'm very interested in learning more about how that works for you. I am NOT looking for staffing structures with multiple branches where staff are scheduled to perform the same tasks but at different branches. Since Covid we've been experiencing quite a lot of turnover. At this moment in time we have a very green staff. I'm hearing from my department managers that many are feeling very overwhelmed by the training involved in onboarding new staff. It has made me curious about rethinking onboarding processes and/or considering new options for staffing - especially at service desks. Curious about what other staffing models are out there in library land, and how they are (or are not) working in your organization. We're a Class 5 library with one main library of significant size. Looking for a sign to inform patrons about the library's service animal policy

Hello all, The Vicksburg District Library has had some issues come up with patrons who bring in pets or animals they claim are service animals but are badly behaved. We are thinking of putting up a sign to inform people that we allow well-behaved service animals but not pets or emotional support animals. New Director at the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library

The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library Board of Trustees unanimously appointed Christina Markowski to permanently fill the role of Library Director following a series of candidate interviews. Markowski had been serving as Interim Director since September 2024 and has been on staff with the Library since 2015. Through the course of her career at the Library, she has worked in youth services, STEM programming, circulation services, and more. Markowski earned her Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University. Markowski is an Alpena County native and is excited to be taking on this new role. “I am thrilled to enter the Director role at Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library. I love my hometown library and look forward to being a part of the library's future."
