Summer Food Service for 2020<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flibraryof…> Friday, May 29, 2020 10:30 AM ET "Meet Up & Eat Up," the SFSP is going to look a little different this summer, but the need is even greater than ever before. Join this webinar to learn how libraries can play a role in feeding the youth in your community. The Michigan Department of Education aims to feed the whole child the whole year. The Meet Up and Eat Up Summer Food Service Program Staff will share how to expand the SFSP to your area. The webinar will cover SFSP basics, requirements for sponsors who operate the SFSP, sites who provide healthy meals to children, and site activity options for Summer 2020. Updates from USDA: The Unanticipated School Closure SFSP meals will end June 30, 2020. Overnight, USDA has extended four nationwide waivers for Child Nutrition Programs: * Waiver #22: Nationwide waiver to allow non-congregate feeding in the Child Nutrition Programs - EXTENSION to August 31, 2020. * Program operators may provide non-congregate meals during COVID-19. Allows for meal service using grab-and-go and meal delivery options. * Applies to the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, and the Summer Food Service Program. * Waiver #23: Nationwide waiver to allow meal service time flexibility in the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, and Child and Adult Care Food Program - EXTENSION to August 31, 2020. * Along with the approved Michigan Summer Food Service Program meal service time flexibility waiver, all sponsors can provide multiple meals at one distribution with no time of day restrictions. Sponsors may establish meal service times that support streamlined access to nutritious meals. * Applies to the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, and the Summer Food Service Program. * Waiver #24: Nationwide waiver to allow meal pattern flexibility in the child nutrition programs - EXTENSION to June 30, 2020. * Allows state agencies to approve meal pattern flexibility in the event of supply chain disruptions that are supported by local operator documentation and pre-approval by the state agency. * Applies to the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, and the Summer Food Service Program. * Waiver #25: Nationwide waiver to allow parents and guardians to pick up meals for children - EXTENSION to August 31, 2020. * Program operators may distribute meals to a parent or guardian to take home to children. Program operators must maintain program accountability and integrity. This waiver also applies to adults picking up meals for adults in the adult portion of the Child and Adult Care Food Program. * Applies to the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, and the Summer Food Service Program. Library of Michigan CARES Act grants - application now open!

The Library of Michigan (LM) is pleased to announce CARES Act grant program as part of LM's response to the COVID-19 crisis' impact on Michigan public libraries. The LM grant program is designed to assist public libraries in providing improved access to the Internet for their community, while maintaining a safe environment for staff and patrons. The intent is to fund one-year projects that increase public libraries' supply of personal protective equipment and facilities supplies (Goal 1) as well as increase community Internet connectivity through the purchase of Internet capable devices, hotspots or other appropriate materials and supplies (Goal 2). The application due date is four weeks after the EO closing libraries to public accommodation is lifted to give libraries time to get back in their buildings and assess their needs. Applicants may request materials and supplies, and services related to either or both the grant program goals. Eligible applicants are Michigan public libraries or tribal libraries who meet the guidelines listed in the application packet. Libraries may submit one application for this program. Branch libraries may NOT apply separately. The number and amount of grant awards will depend on the funds available and the number of applications received. For the CARES Act Grant, the grant awards will be as follows: Goal 1 - For PPE equipment and facilities supplies and services: * $500 per main library location; $300 per branch location All eligible requests for Goal 1 will be funded. Goal 2 - For digital inclusion supplies and services: * Up to $5,000 for Class V & VI libraries * Up to $3,000 for Class III & IV libraries * Up to $1,000 for Class I & II libraries Libraries in communities with high rates of unemployment and poverty and low rates of Broadband access will have priority for Goal 2. LM has data on these three issues and will rank applications based on these. LM will fund as many of the Goal 2 applications as possible. The grant period will be 12 months, starting from the date of the contract up to 9/30/2021. TEI MakerSpace Summer Lease

Hello, all. Back in the fall, I signed a lease agreement with TEI Landmark for one of their maker crates. I was super excited to provide that for my summer programming. Well, as you know, I won't be able too because of covid-19. I have emailed both the man with whom I signed the contract and the actual company itself to discuss options. Hello, I'm curious how long other libraries lend their new DVDs. Particularly libraries that purchase only 1 copy of a movie. Does your library have a shorter lending period for new DVDs? Programming for Adults with Developmental Disabilities: Why and How<https://infopeople.org/civicrm/event/info?id=909&reset=1> May 21 @ 1:00 PM ET Cost: Free Often residential and day programs for people with developmental disabilities bring clients to their local public library to visit, however, these groups don't really engage with the library's many services or programs. Adults with developmental disabilities also come to the library on their own. Many times, individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities are directed to youth services and not the adult departments which are more appropriate. This confusion could present a barrier to offering these patrons more than just a place to visit. Would you like to offer programming for adults with developmental disabilities rather than just a place to visit? Join us for this one-hour webinar devoted to an exploration of a range of topics related to programming in your libraries for the adults with developmental disabilities in your community. Presenters Carrie Banks (Brooklyn Public Library) and Barbara Klipper (Autism Welcome Here grant) will cover the barriers and benefits of programming, best practices, and what is meant by a "culture of inclusion." They'll also leave you with some sample program ideas you can bring to your library and give you a preview of what else will be covered in the book on this subject they are currently writing for the publishing division of ALA. Curbside Hours

Hello All, My supervisor has asked for feedback from other Michigan libraries on planned or implemented curbside services hours. If you would be willing to reply informally and off-list what you are planning, we would appreciate it.
