This is an excellent opportunity for a library science student, a new librarian, or a librarian returning to the workplace to gain valuable training and hands-on experience in a dynamic public library environment. POSITION TITLE: Substitute Librarian DEPARTMENT: Adult and Teen Services, reporting to Department Head HOURS: Weekdays, evenings, and weekends (including Sundays) as needed on a flexible basis. Weekday availability strongly preferred. WAGES & BENEFITS: $20.50 to $23.58 an hour. Sunday hours are paid at time and a half. Sick time. Employee assistance program (EAP). RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provide friendly, professional service to patrons of all ages in a welcoming public library environment. * Assist with reference and readers’ advisory, help users find materials to enjoy, explore interests, or answer questions. * Instruct and support patrons using the library catalog, digital collections, databases, and technology. * Perform additional duties as needed to support library services and operations. REQUIREMENTS: MIMIUM: • Master’s in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent relevant work experience. Students who are currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited program and actively working to complete their degree are also eligible for consideration. • Serious commitment to providing superior quality public service to patrons of all ages and abilities. • Ability to lift, push, and/or pull at least 20 pounds; ability to visually review materials and discern vocal and audible tones with or without reasonable accommodation. • Proficiency in modern computing environments, both desktop and mobile. • Knowledge of current trends and practices in public libraries. • Ability to work effectively with others in a collaborative environment. DESIRABLE: • Previous experience working with the public on a library service desk or in an equivalent environment. • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 and Sierra ILS. Mylar and Adhesive Book Covers Up for Grabs

Going through our book covering materials cupboard and have a bunch of mylar book covers and one-piece adhesive book covers that we want to pass along to someone else who will actually use them! See below for pics. There are a total of 241 mylar book covers. These are pre-cut to size and have adhesive strips for ease of covering. There is a variety of 8" and 9" sizes. There are a total of 90 one-piece adhesive book covers, I think they are the Demco CircExtender ones. They each have the pre-prepped spine section that you apply first. These are all 10.75 x 17.5" (fits up to 10"). I'm happy to send these out via RIDES. Please reply with your RIDES code and which cover(s) you want and how many (don't be shy here). Michigan Renaissance Festival, 2025 and the Michigan Activity Pass

All, One of the most common MAP related questions we get is "Will Michigan Renaissance Festival be a MAP partner destination this year?" We reach out to MRF concerning our interest in having them as a MAP partner every year, usually in April. Most years the answer is yes. But there have been a couple of "no" years, too. And full disclosure we never know for sure what MRF's plans are for MAP until August. Participants will work with the facilitators and each other to consider what impact summer programs are having on those that need them the most. Each participating library should be represented by a team of at least two staff members. Libraries are encouraged to send staff from across departments and can include Youth Services and/or Adult Services staff, programming coordinators, summer library program coordinators, outreach staff, marketing, and administrators. Participation in the BCBS initiative will require, of all team members: * Active attendance and participation using cameras, shared whiteboards, and breakout sessions. * Participation in an introductory orientation before the learning sessions begin. * Additional work will be required within your library and community to begin to consider and assess your existing and planned summer programs and services through an equity lens. Expect to spend approximately 1-2 hours/week doing this work, in addition to the virtual sessions.
