The Library of Michigan collects evaluation feedback of our services each year so we can provide data to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) as a requirement of our Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funding grant. Plant Exchange at DPL's Main Branch

Come to the Main Branch (across Woodward Ave. from the DIA in Detroit) between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 30. Bring plants that you don't need, and take others that are offered. You are not required to bring plants in order to take plants. People bring and take both outdoor plants and indoor plants. We will have a Master Gardener from MSU Extension to answer questions and give advice. Plus refreshments. Request for Sample 3-D Printer Policies

Hello everyone, We recently had a patron ask whether they could use our 3-D printer to print a prop gun. That question led to a larger staff discussion about what is and is not permitted on our 3-D printer. At the moment, we do not have a formal 3-D printer policy in place, and we feel it would be helpful to create one so staff can respond confidently and consistently to these types of requests. Would anyone be willing to share their library’s 3-D printer policy or guidelines as a starting point? In particular, we are interested in how other libraries address prohibited items such as weapons, prop weapons, or other potentially unsafe objects. Library of Things Questions

Hello there, We are currently developing our Library of Things collection here at APL and we have been able to get a lot of great advice from asking about your experiences with building these collections up at your institutions. The last time we asked, the big question was wondering what items had great circulations and positive feedback from your communities. This time around, we are wondering what items you DON'T like having due to inconvenience of checkout, poor quality control when items are checked back in (things returning dirty, parts missing, etc.), or other things with factors that might be overlooked when initially considering an item to be added. Through this course, students will be identifying key audiences and stakeholders, understanding their priorities and motivators, and crafting messages that resonate. The second session will conclude with a summary of tips and techniques for creating and structuring compelling, persuasive messages that not only capture attention but lead to the desired action. Instructor Bios: Anna Perricci is the Head of DPC Americas at the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), which is an organization that supports community, advocacy, workforce development, good practice and good governance in digital preservation. Her professional focus is extending the beneficial impact of the DPC’s resources, assets and team members throughout both North and South America. During her 16 years of experience in the field before joining the DPC, she provided extensive, expert guidance and strategy to projects in libraries, archives, museums, academic institutions as well as to funding organizations that support them. Sarah Middleton is Chief Community Officer at the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), where she leads the organisation’s work on advocacy for digital preservation. She is particularly interested in helping people make sense of complex technical challenges and communicate them in ways that resonate with different audiences. In her role, she has recently coordinated the development of the DPC’s new Advocacy Toolkit, as well as leading initiatives such as the Global Bit List of Endangered Digital Materials, World Digital Preservation Day and the Digital Preservation Awards.
