Tough Topics Dewey Poster-Shareable Template

Good morning Michigan libraries! Several years ago, I had seen a post on Reddit in which someone had photographed a 'tough topics' poster at a public library. The poster showed patrons where they might find some very important subjects that they might be hesitant to ask a librarian about, due to their sensitive nature. I asked one of my department's Technology Training Associates to create one for us (shout out to Kayla Steeby for her work on this 🙂) so that we could update, customize, and possibly print these to display around our department. I haven't seen anything like this for sale, so we thought we would just go ahead and make one ourselves and share it with anyone interested. I think this could be very helpful in empowering patrons to utilize library resources at their own comfort level. Library of Michigan Welcomes New Continuing Education Coordinator

I am pleased to announce that Andrea Vernola has joined the Library Development Team at the Library of Michigan as the new Continuing Education Coordinator. Andrea has served in Michigan and Illinois public libraries of all sizes for over 20 years. She was most recently the Branch Manager for the Oshtemo Branch of the Kalamazoo Public Library after many years at KPL leading children's programming and teen services. Andrea's experience includes programming and collections for babies through adults, community engagement and outreach, leadership and management, strategy and evaluation, organizational learning, and staff development. Andrea is also an experienced event coordinator, training facilitator, and lifelong learner. She will be working on updates to LM's staff certification trainings as well as coordinating webinars and in-person learning opportunities. Free Table/Chair Set and Spinning Racks

Hello! We have a children's round table that comes with 8 chairs and 4 spinning racks that we are giving away for free. If you would like any of these items, please contact me at sali(a)detroitpubliclibrary.org. We would like to get rid of them as soon as possible. You will need a big truck to pick these up. We are located at 13330 Conant, Detroit, MI 48212. Thanks! Here are the dimensions: This table and chairs are child-sized. The table is round and is 6 foot wide. It is 26 inches tall. There are 8 chairs. They are 16 inches tall. The table is sturdy and the tabletop is in decent condition. There are some light scratches. The side of the table, however, does have colored and scratched in graffiti, although I hardly notice it. The chairs need to be properly wiped down and a lot of the dirt will come off. There are scratches and small holes on the leather of several of the chairs. I have 4 spin racks that are fully functional and hold paperbacks and DVDs. They are 64 inches tall and 3 feet wide. They are dusty but in good condition. One of them has a plastic piece missing that we have replaced with a piece of cardboard. I am attaching photos of all items and showing some of the imperfections. Executive Director - Haverford Township Free Library (PA) The Haverford Township Free Library<https://haverfordlibrary.org/> (PA) Board of Trustees seeks an Executive Director who possesses strong professional standards, deep expertise in library management and operations, and a keen ability to foster and maintain community partnerships. Haverford Township Free Library has been the township's official public library since 1934, providing continuing service to the community for more than 80 years. The library is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees. In June 2025 the library completed an 18-month, $23 million renovation project that expanded the library's footprint and service and program offerings to the community. Staff and the community alike are thrilled about the new space and all the potential it offers. The Haverford Township Free Library serves a population of over 50,000 people, with a budget of $1.8 million and an engaged staff of 14.6 FTE-with capacity for future growth. The library's total collection use of more than 151,500 items (2024) is among the highest of the 28 libraries in Delaware County. The new Executive Director will lead the rollout of new services in the upgraded facilities and promote them through partnerships and external collaboration. Key initiatives of this position involve creating and executing a long-term strategic plan to ensure the organization's success in its expanded and improved physical location and developing a plan to secure funding for future initiatives. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, foster a positive organizational culture, and support staff development. Strong interpersonal skills and a broad perspective are essential for this leader.
