A recent executive order<https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/continuing-the-redu…> issued by the Trump Administration calls for eliminating the nation’s only federal agency for America’s libraries. “A dismantling of the Institute of Museum and Library Services would have negative implications for every American and the library services on which they rely,” said State Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Patron computer management software

I know this question gets periodically asked (even by myself 4 years ago), but we are finally going to upgrade our patron computers this summer and are looking for recommendations for time management software. We don't need print management- our printer is set up for Papercut. We don't even need the option for reservations as computer usage is down from years ago and we rarely have anyone waiting. We're looking for a program that will lock PCs until a patron logs in with their library card or a guest pass, will block cardholders who don't have computer permissions, will automatically log a patron off when their time expires, will automatically shut down at the end of the night, and will give me usage reports. Being able to view a patron's screen would be a bonus. What does your library use, and how do you like it? What is support like- are they responsive? Easy to work with? Has anyone recently worked with Librarica's CASSIE? Our previous IT person worked with them a decade ago and had nothing good to say about the setup process or their support, but it's been quite a while and staff and technology change. I'm also interested in mConsole, but have been having trouble getting a hold of them, and that doesn't bode well. I appreciate any opinions! UPRLC Conference Call for Proposals

Good Morning! The Upper Peninsula Region of Library Cooperation (UPRLC) invites you to submit proposals for the 2025 Annual Conference. This year's theme is Back to the Basics and Beyond and will be held at the Bay College campus in Iron Mountain on September 17th and 18th. In keeping with our theme, we are looking for session proposals that bring us Back to the Basics and Beyond, considering foundational elements of librarianship alongside sessions that help us chart what's next for the information profession. In line with our theme, we are looking for programs that will elevate the ideas in our areas of interest but will be reviewing all proposals submitted on an equal basis. Requested areas include (but are not limited to): * Reader's Advisory * Practical Programming for a Variety of Age Groups * Serving the Unhoused * Collection Development and Weeding * Cataloging * Customer Service Each breakout session should be approximately 45-50 minutes long. Breakout session speakers who plan to attend other conference sessions will receive $25 off the cost of their registration. Speakers who will not be attending other sessions will have their registration fee waived. All speakers will be required to cover their own associated travel costs.
