MAP Adds TWO New Detroit Based Destination Partners

Good Morning, Those of us who have worked (and played) with the Michigan Activity Pass program for a decade or (approaching) two will recall that these two venues [ https://detroithistorical.org/detroit-historical-museum/plan-your-visit/gen… | https://detroithistorical.org/detroit-historical-museum/plan-your-visit/gen… ] and [ https://detroithistorical.org/dossin-great-lakes-museum/plan-your-visit/gen… | https://detroithistorical.org/dossin-great-lakes-museum/plan-your-visit/gen… ] were "founding members" of MAP when the program launched in 2007. Back then the two venues constituted about 10% of the total number of MAP destination partners. They were popular with MAP patrons but both found it necessary to leave the program following a successful run of a number of years. This morning I am pleased to welcome (back) both Detroit Historical Museum AND Dossin Great Lakes Museum to the Michigan Activity Pass program! This month, we will talk about how to determine and frame success, and how to celebrate once we've achieved that success. Project Literacy - Pathways to Success Grant Program (FUNDING AVAILABLE)

For those interested in a workforce literacy project for skilled immigrants to improve employment opportunities, please take a look at the program below. The cohort is being done through the Connecticut State Library and the Howard County Library System in MD, but it open to libraries around the country. Karren Reish Library Grants Coordinator Library of Michigan 517-241-0021 / www.mi.gov/lsta<http://www.mi.gov/lsta> Sharing a wonderful opportunity offered by our partners at the Howard County Library System, MD. This project is open to any library serving a diverse community. Would your library like to join Howard County Library System's Pathways to Success: Professional Development for Skilled New Americans library cohort? Pathways to Success mitigates unemployment and underemployment by expanding services customized for skilled immigrants. The secondary goal of the program is to train other libraries to adapt this model (or parts thereof) to start their own program serving New Americans in their communities. If your library is in a diverse community, Pathways to Success is an opportunity for you to improve services for that community. Howard County is an extremely diverse county. Over 20% of Howard County residents were born outside of the country (Institute for Immigration Research, 2022). Unfortunately, 40% of immigrants (vs. 29% of U.S.-born workers) still hold jobs that require mechanical skills and are not necessarily high-wage jobs (Bennett, 2020). Immigrants are still not attaining well-paying jobs at comparable rates to the native born, and limited English proficiency is correlated with lower wages (Bernstein & Vilter, 2018). The four basic service levels of the Pathways to Success model are as follows: English classes, comprehensive English classes, job search & networking classes, and workforce preparation. Participants also meet 1:1 with instructors to focus on projects, resumes, interviews, job searches, and anything that is difficult to pursue in class. Desirable outcomes for participants include finding a well-paying job in their field of training or expertise, finding a job that is better than their current job, preparing to find a job, or preparing to return to postsecondary education or training. * Cohort libraries receive a $2,000 stipend. * Cohort libraries must: * Commit to the project for one year. * Have support to apply knowledge gained from the project in their own library. Cohort libraries are expected to: * Complete the training from October 2023 through May 2024. Library Director - Anderson Public Library (IN) The Anderson Public Library (IN)<https://www.and.lib.in.us/>, a renowned and progressive institution serving the vibrant communities of Anderson City, Anderson, Stony Creek, And Union Townships in Indiana, is seeking a dynamic and visionary individual to serve as its next Library Director. Working with 41.16 FTE staff, two locations, including both the Anderson Public Library and the Lapel Branch Library, and a $5.7 million budget, the new director will work to provide nearly 70,000 residents in the library district with a thriving, diverse, trusted, library at the center of the community. Key initiatives include making the library more visible to the population it serves, developing a healthy organizational culture, and working with the board and staff to align the organizational structure with patron's needs. Anderson, Indiana, a city nestled in the heart of Madison County, is an hour northeast of Indianapolis and its international airport. Downtown Anderson boasts an array of restored historic buildings. Anderson's devotion to the arts is evident through its historic Anderson Museum of Art, located in the former Carnegie Library building, the restored Paramount Theatre and ballroom, and live music venues, which provide a platform for creativity to thrive. Nature enthusiasts will delight in the abundance of parks and green spaces scattered throughout the city, along with the hiking trails at Mounds State Park and mountain bike trails at the Rangeline Nature Preserve. It is also the home of Anderson University, Purdue Polytechnic and a new Ivy Tech Community College campus. Anderson's warm and welcoming community radiates a sense of pride and unity, fostering connections among its residents. Responsibilities: The Library Director functions as the Chief Executive Officer of the library and is responsible for overseeing systemwide services and physical facilities, assessing and determining budgetary operating and capital needs, selecting and directing managers, and promoting library services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to selecting, supervising, training, and evaluating department staff and effectively scheduling staff to best meet library needs; administering library business in compliance with the Library Board of Trustee's policies, grant stipulations, Indiana Code Law, and Indiana State Library requirements, including compliance with professional certification requirements for library staff; designing and developing plans to ensure effective use of present and future materials, collections, and technology applications to best meet customer and staff needs; developing a strategic plan and short-term goals in collaboration with library board and staff; and modeling open communication with library staff and customers. Qualifications: A master's degree in library and information science and 5 years of relevant experience are required. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and listener, appreciate the value of staff to an organization, possess knowledge of current trends in the library profession, and will collaborate when problem solving. Compensation: The hiring salary range is $116,000 - $130,000 (with placement negotiable dependent on experience and qualifications) and an excellent fringe benefits package which includes health, dental, a 457 plan, pension, and life insurance. PULLOUT BROWSING BOX SHELVES AVAILABLE

We have 10 Black "Pullout Browsing Box" Shelves we are no longer using and are giving away. These shelf inserts are 36" long, 12" Deep and 7" High and include some dividers and the rubber mats that fit inside them. These work with Estey (Tennsco Corp) brand book shelves. We use them for our CD books - bottom shelf "title up" and pull out for easy viewing and access, but they are most commonly used for Blu-rays, CDs and DVDs. You will need to pick them up at our library during our normal working hours. Consider joining a Collaborative Summer Library Program committee! Volunteering for a CSLP Committee is a great opportunity to develop professionally while also contributing to the CSLP mission. Our committees are the lifeblood of CSLP. Volunteers play a significant role in the success of our organization and programs. While the duties vary, committee obligations generally run for one calendar year. All committee work is done virtually, either through email, phone, or online meetings. Attending the CSLP Annual Meeting is not expected for committee volunteers. We are recruiting for all committees, except the Artwork committee -- which is already working on the 2025 artwork. Most CSLP committees are open to all, however some have limited seats or require previous CSLP experience.
