Dear Colleagues, The National Federation of the Blind of Michigan Raising Expectations Accessing Life (R.E.A.L.) Program takes place June 23-25, 2023, in Flint, Michigan at the beautiful Hilton Garden Inn. This weekend event provides younger blind children a chance to work on science experiments themed around space and work. See attached flyers for more information. With a 2,000-square-foot StoryScape imaginative play center, bubbling saltwater and freshwater tanks, an impressive Reading Tower, and even a 250-seat theater our library space encourages children to discover and explore. Our robust collection of materials, vibrant programming, and well-established community partnerships reflect the diversity of the community we serve. We are currently searching for a capable and compassionate manager to lead a staff of ten as they impact the lives of youth in our community. The Children's Services Manager is responsible for the management of the planning, coordination, and implementation of professional library services to children, caregivers, and youth-serving organizations in the Main Library Children's Services Department. free online astronomy program, May 23, The Moon is NOT Boring

How rotation, revolution, and perturbation conspire to keep things interesting. Isn’t the Moon always the same? NO! The moon is much more dynamic than most give it credit for. To the layperson it can be easy to take the Moon for granted, for the astronomer it can be easy to ignore the Moon entirely, as it can obscure “more interesting” objects. In this presentation, Jeff Macleod will unravel all these subtle details, dispelling many common misconceptions and illusions involving the Moon as well as explaining experiments and observations you can make at home. Jeff MacLeod has a Bachelors in Physics and Astronomy from Wayne State University. He is a former president of the Warren Astronomical Society, the best astronomy club in Michigan (his words). During his time at Wayne State he was active with their astronomy club as well as a presenter at the Wayne State Planetarium. Jeff is also a Solar System Ambassador with NASA JPL and loves sharing astronomy and spaceflight history with the public. DPL continues partnering with WSU's planetarium on these talks related to astronomy. Zoom link will be sent to registrants before program.
